Darin Ruf has been placed on the Triple-A Lehigh Valley disabled list with a left writ and right knee injury.
Ruf suffered the injuries when he slid into a wall while trying to chase down a foul ball. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined, but obviously he won't be an option for the Phillies for a while.

Phillies optioned 1B/OF Darin Ruf to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Manager Ryne Sandberg was saying just a couple days ago that Ruf had a shot to play himself into a platoon at first base, but he's now back in the minors after receiving just 11 plate appearances. He should be back later this season.

Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg indicated Tuesday that Darin Ruf could play his way into a platoon at first base with Ryan Howard.
"Yeah, if it happens to work," Sandberg said of a platoon. "It's an opportunity to have a lineup like that and if it produces that becomes an opportunity and possibility going forward, just to possibly to get some consistency with the offense against right-handed and left-handed pitching." Howard is hitting just .182 against left-handers over the last three seasons, so finding a platoon mate for him would be wise. Ruf started against left Jorge De La Rosa on Tuesday and hit a solo homer.

Phillies recalled 1B/OF Darin Ruf from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Ruf began the season on the disabled list with an oblique strain and was eventually optioned to Lehigh Valley last week after completing a rehab assignment. He's hit .261/.314/.391 with one homer in 12 minor league games this season and will give the Phils an option at first base and the corner outfield spots against left-handed pitching.

Darin Ruf (oblique) has shifted his minor league rehab assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Ruf was 3-for-12 with two RBI in three rehab games at High-A Clearwater. He is fully recovered from his left oblique strain and the Philly bench could use a boost, so the .257/.348/.489 career hitter might be activated soon.
