The double came when the game was already out of hand, but Swanson still put a solid swing on the ball, which is something he's done more often than not in 2018. Though his numbers will regress when his .434 BABIP returns to the mean, the 24-year-old seems to have made major strides against right handed pitching, as he owns a .361 average in 61 at-bats against righties, which is lightyears better than his .224 clip in 393 at-bats from the year before. With the success of Atlanta's offense in mind, ride Swanson for as long as he continues to mash.

While Ozzie Albies is generating headlines with his incredible power display to begin the season, his double-play partner has been just as impressive in his own way. Swanson's put together a .357/.390/.571 slash line through 13 games with a homer, a steal, seven runs and 10 RBI, and he already has seven multi-hit games on the year -- a mark he didn't reach until June 9 last year.

The young shortstop in enjoying a blistering start at the plate, slashing .382/.400/.518 through eight games, and while those numbers will come down he should settle in as a much better hitter than he showed in 2017.

The 24-year-old is off to a good start to 2018, going 10-for-27 through six games, and while Swanson is still looking for his first home run he does have four extra-base hits (three doubles and a triple) and six RBI. The shortstop's fantasy stock took a hit after he managed only a .636 OPS last year, but he seems intent on proving he still deserves to be mentioned among all the other young building blocks in the Braves' organization.

Swanson is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Nationals.

EDGE Analysis

After a nightmarish 2017 campaign, Swanson has opened the current season on a much better note, producing three multi-hit games in his first five starts. That strong performance at the dish will keep him locked in as the Braves' everyday shortstop, but Swanson will get a breather in the day game after a night game, opening up a spot in the lineup for Charlie Culberson.

Touted as a potential breakout candidate ahead of last season, Swanson never got going in 2017, posting a .232/.312/.324 slash line in 488 at-bats and was even sent to Triple-A Gwinnett for a stretch after hitting just .213 through 95 games. Friday's three-hit showing was a nice start for the young shortstop, but Swanson will have to show that he can produce consistently at the big-league level before he can confidently be deployed in fantasy lineups.

Swanson is 5-for-27 (.185) with two home runs through 10 spring training games.

EDGE Analysis

It's rarely ever wise to read too far into spring training stats, but it's fair to be a bit disappointed with Swanson's early spring struggles following his poor showing during the 2017 season. The shortstop's lackluster performance resulted in a brief demotion to Triple-A last year, and despite better results following his return from the minors, the former top prospect still closed the campaign with an awful .232/.312/.324 slash line. He'll be given time to right the ship this season, but the very early results don't lend much optimism.

Swanson is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets.

Johan Camargo will step in at short as Swanson sits following four consecutive starts. Swanson showed improvement initially upon his return to the majors, but he's hit another slide in recent weeks. While his dynasty league stock has taken a considerable hit this season, Swanson is still just 23 and should have every opportunity to reverse the narrative in 2018.
