If the Mets fail to re-sign Jose Reyes, Daniel Murphy will likely start at second base in 2012.
Ruben Tejada would become the team's regular shortstop. Murphy doesn't have a ton of experience at second, nor does he have great natural range, but the Mets like his bat and want to keep him in the everyday lineup. The 26-year-old hit .320/.362/.448 in 423 plate appearances this year.

Mets activated INF Daniel Murphy from the 60-day disabled list.
Murphy tore the MCL in his left knee in an ugly play at second base in early-August, but is expected to be ready for spring training. The 26-year-old batted .320/.362/.448 with six homers, 49 RBI and an .809 OPS over 423 plate appearances this season. The Mets are optimistic that Ike Davis' ankle injury is behind him, so Murphy will likely have to compete for the starting second base job.

Mets manager Terry Collins indicated Monday that Daniel Murphy (knee) could play the outfield next season.
The Mets aren't keen on Murphy playing in the instructional league or winter ball, so it seems the experiment could begin during spring training. The 26-year-old would be of much greater value to the Mets in the long-term if got comfortable at second base, but one wonders if they are hesitant to put him there permanently given that he has suffered season-ending injuries at the position in consecutive years.

Mets placed INF Daniel Murphy on the 15-day disabled list with a torn MCL in his left knee.
Murphy won't need surgery, but the recovery process for an injury of his severity can take between 6-8 weeks. In other words, he's done for the year. The 26-year-old will finish up with a cool .320/.362/.448 batting line, six home runs, 28 doubles, five stolen bases and 49 RBI.

Daniel Murphy suffered a Grade 2 tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during Sunday's game, according to ESPN New York.
He is done for the season. Murphy doesn't need surgery, but he will have a four-month recovery period. Murphy strained the MCL in his right knee last season and rehabbed the injury. Nick Evans should be in line for at-bats at first with Murphy and Ike Davis both out for the year. It's a disappointing end to a nice season for Murphy, who hit .320/.362/.448 over 391 at-bats.

Daniel Murphy left Sunday's game in the seventh inning with a left leg injury.
Murphy's leg buckled underneath him during a collision with the Braves' Jose Constanza as Constanza slid into second base, suffering a possible knee or ankle injury. He looked to be in a lot of pain and couldn't put any weight on his leg while being helped off the field, so it could be serious. Scott Hairston took his spot at second base.

Daniel Murphy was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI in an 8-2 win over the Reds on Wednesday night.
Murphy apparently has no intention of cooling off. He now has multi-hit games in five out of his last six, raising his batting average from .304 to .319 in the process. He's turned into a decent mixed league player with his multi-position eligibility and stellar batting average.

Daniel Murphy went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and two RBI in New York's 4-2 victory over the Reds on Monday.
Murphy has been swinging a hot bat for some time now, hitting .330 in June and .321 in July entering play on Monday. He's the regular first baseman with David Wright back from the disabled list and has been a very good NL-only player this year. Murphy is batting .308/.348/.444 on the season to go with 44 RBI.

Mets manager Terry Collins indicated that with David Wright back from the disabled list, Daniel Murphy will be the regular first baseman while Justin Turner will play second base.
"There will be a lot of factors that will determine what that's going to look like in the next 10 days for sure," said Collins, presumably eluding to the trade deadline. While Turner has crashed back down to Earth after a hot start, Murphy is batting .324 since the start of June.
