Hudson picked up a save against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed one hit and struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson found himself in immediate trouble when Ketel Marte led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a double, but the veteran reliever escaped with the save by following with a groundout and two strikeouts. Hudson was granted the save opportunity because regular closer Craig Kimbrel threw 26 pitches Friday and realized that his body "just didn't feel good" Saturday, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times. Kimbrel is expected to be available Sunday, but with three saves in three opportunities on the campaign, Hudson has shown that he can be an effective option when Kimbrel is unavailable.

Hudson (1-3) took the loss against Philadelphia on Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one over one inning.
EDGE Analysis
The Dodgers stormed back from a 7-3 deficit by scoring four runs in the eighth inning, and they handed the ball to Hudson with hopes that he could keep the score tied in the top of the ninth. However, the veteran reliever was touched for a pair of runs that resulted in his second loss in as many days. There was some bad luck involved for the right-hander -- the first two batters who reached base didn't get the ball out of the infield -- but Hudson also hurt himself with a bases-loaded wild pitch. Despite the hiccup, Hudson has been one of the Dodgers' best bullpen arms on the season, compiling a 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 13:3 K:BB and five holds over 10.2 innings.

Hudson (1-2) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against Pittsburgh as a result of allowing one run on three hits over one inning. He struck out one batter.
EDGE Analysis
After the Dodgers scored three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, they turned to the usually reliable Hudson in the bottom of the frame. The right-hander was unable to keep the score knotted, as he served up a one-out solo home run to Daniel Vogelbach. The Pirates' following two batters reached base as well, but Hudson was able to induce an inning-ending double play on a lineout to escape further damage. This was only the second time in Hudson's 10 outings that he has been tagged with a run. He carries a 1.86 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB across 9.2 innings on the season.

Hudson saved Saturday's 5-2 win against Cincinnati, recording one strikeout in two-thirds innings pitched.
EDGE Analysis
Los Angeles held a 5-0 lead entering the ninth inning, but the bullpen surrendered two runs before Hudson was brought in to shut the door on the victory. The 35-year-old got the opportunity in a low-leverage situation and with Craig Kimbrel having pitched the previous night, though he would stand to gain significant traction if Kimbrel were to falter.

Hudson pitched a perfect inning against the Rockies on Friday, allowing one hit and striking out three to notch a hold.
EDGE Analysis
With the Dodgers up late, manager Dave Roberts elected to go to Blake Treinen in the seventh inning and Hudson in the eighth before bringing in Craig Kimbrel to shut things down in the ninth. Hudson impressed in his frame, throwing 12 of 18 pitches for strikes and punching out the side. Treinen was perhaps even more impressive by retiring all three batters he faced on only five pitches, while Kimbrel was shaky but picked up the save. The Treinen-Hudson combination in the seventh and eighth innings -- though not necessarily in that order -- figures to be a common one for Los Angeles this season, so both relievers should have ample opportunity to rack up holds along with the occasional win and save.

Hudson could be a source of saves this season with Blake Treinen and the team openly embracing the idea of Treinen being used to get the highest-leverage outs, regardless of which inning he pitches.
EDGE Analysis
Treinen is the team's best reliever, so he will naturally get some saves, wins and holds, but he is unlikely to push for 30 saves and he may not even lead the team in saves. With 27 career saves to his name, Hudson is as well positioned as anyone to get the ball in the ninth inning when Treinen has already been used earlier in the game.

Hudson agreed to a one-year, $7 million contract with the Dodgers on Monday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson split 2021 between San Diego and Washington and had a 3.31 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 75:16 K:BB across 51.2 innings with 17 holds. The closer's role is up for grabs with Kenley Jansen now a free agent, and Hudson should fill a high-leverage role for the Dodgers alongside Blake Treinen.

Hudson earned a hold against Arizona on Sunday, pitching a scoreless inning during which he gave up one hit and struck out one batter.
EDGE Analysis
The Padres won the contest 8-2 but held only a two-run lead when Hudson entered in the seventh inning. The right-hander gave up a Josh Rojas double but otherwise kept the Diamondbacks in check. Since a rough debut for San Diego on Aug. 11, Hudson has turned things around with two scoreless innings in which he has struck out three batters.

Hudson allowed one run on two hits and two walks without retiring a batter Wednesday versus the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander is expected to eventually fill a high-leverage role in the Padres' bullpen, but he was brought in with San Diego down 6-0 in the eighth inning Wednesday. Hudson gave up a pair of hits to lead off the frame, then followed with a pair of walks to force in a run. His final line could have looked much worse, but Miguel Diaz inherited the bases-loaded, no-outs situation and managed to emerge from the frame without allowing another run. Hudson's shaky performance can perhaps partly be attributed to a layoff that lasted over two weeks, but San Diego may need him to turn things around quickly with top setup man Drew Pomeranz (forearm) placed on the 10-day IL on Wednesday.

The Padres reinstated Hudson from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
San Diego will swap one high-leverage reliever in for another on the active roster, as Drew Pomeranz (forearm) was moved to the IL in a corresponding move. Before landing on the IL and being shipped to San Diego ahead of the trade deadline, Hudson had worked as the top setup man to Brad Hand in Washington, recording 15 holds while posting a 2.20 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 48:7 K:BB in 32.2 innings. Now that he's cleared COVID-19 protocols, Hudson should quickly emerge as a key part of the late-inning bridge to San Diego closer Mark Melancon.
