Hudson pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his sixth save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Phillies in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson has earned the save in three of his last four appearances, and it took him just 14 pitches to produce three flyball outs. Manager Dave Martinez said earlier in the day that he still views Sean Doolittle as his closer and is confident Doolittle will eventually return to the role full time.

Hudson gave up three hits over two scoreless innings to record his fifth save of the season in Friday's 6-4 win over the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Three of the right-hander's saves have come in a Nats uniform after he came over from the Jays at the trade deadline, and he's earned the save in both of his last two appearances. With Sean Doolittle still trying to find his form, it looks like Hudson will be the top closing option for Washington over the final days of the regular season.

Hudson gave up a hit and struck out two over two scoreless innings Tuesday to record his fourth save of the season in a 6-2 win over the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
It's his first save since Aug. 13, and the first by any Nats pitcher in September. Hudson has a 2.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 17:3 K:BB through 18 innings since the trade that brought him over from Toronto, and with Sean Doolittle still trying to find his form, the right-hander could remain the team's top option in the ninth inning down the stretch.

Hudson retired two batters and served up three unearned runs on two hits and a walk in Tuesday's 11-10 win over the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Though Hudson was able to keep his season ERA at a pristine 2.86, he wasn't effective in the outing. He let the Mets push their lead to six with two outs in the top of the ninth, surrendering a two-run single to Jeff McNeil and then a two-run home run to Pete Alonso. Hudson has now given up long balls in both of his last two relief appearances, a development that could hurt his standing in the Nationals' bullpen pecking order. With Sean Doolittle having recently returned from the injured list, Hudson isn't a strong bet to receive many save chances the rest of the way anyhow.

Hudson will be part of a closer-by-committee situation while Sean Doolittle (knee) is on the 10-day injured list, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Doolittle was placed on the IL with knee tendinitis and is not expected to be sidelined long. While he is out, Hudson, Hunter Strickland and Fernando Rodney will be the top options for saves. Manager Dave Martinez says he will play the matchups in the ninth inning.

Hudson allowed three hits and no walks while striking out two across 1.1 innings to earn the save Tuesday against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Sean Doolittle had pitched three times in four days leading up to the Nationals' contest Tuesday, opening the door for Hudson to earn a save chance. He made things interesting, surrendering a leadoff double and allowing the winning run to come to the plate in the ninth frame, prior to striking out Tucker Barnhart to end the game. Though he isn't likely to get more than a handful of save chances prior to the end of the season, Hudson has pitched well since being dealt to the Nationals by allowing one earned run in 6.2 frames, striking out seven and walking one.

Hudson was traded from the Blue Jays to the Nationals on Wednesday in exchange for Kyle Johnston, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson will help shore up the Nationals' bullpen -- which owns the worst ERA (5.97) in the majors -- as the team looks to hand onto a playoff spot. The veteran right-hander owns a solid 3.00 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 48:23 K:BB in 48 innings this season and should assume a setup role with his new club.

Hudson allowed one run on two hits and a walk in 1.1 innings against the Yankees on Saturday but escaped with his second save of the season. He struck out one batter.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson allowed the Yankees' only run of the game, but after Aaron Judge's RBI single, Hudson rebounded to strike out Luke Voit looking. Afterward, manager Charlie Montoyo told Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca that regular closer Ken Giles is dealing with nerve inflammation in his elbow and is day-to-day.

Hudson (5-2) was charged with the blown save Saturday against the Royals but still earned the win after giving up one run on one hit during the ninth inning. He had one strikeout and one walk.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson allowed a single and a walk to start the inning, and the Royals scratched across the tying run with a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly. According to Laura Armstrong of the Toronto Star, manager Charlie Montoyo wanted to avoid using closer Ken Giles after he threw 17 pitches Friday fresh off the injured list, though Hudson was unable to take advantage to grab his second save of the year. Hudson has otherwise been a fairly reliable option for the Blue Jays with a 2.92 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 38:19 K:BB over 37 innings.

Hudson allowed only one walk and struck out three across 1.1 innings to earn the save Wednesday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Hudson entered the game with two outs in the eighth inning after a collection of Blue Jays relievers -- including announced temporary closer Joe Biagini -- allowed the Orioles to score six runs. However, he ended the rally quickly, whiffing Hanser Alberto on four pitches. Hudson got off to shaky start in the ninth inning, walking the leadoff batter and hitting the second batter he faced but went on to retire three consecutive batters to earn his first save since the 2016 season. Ken Giles (elbow) is only expected to be sidelined for a short time, though Hudson may work his way into the saves picture in the meantime.
