Reds manager Terry Francona is toying with the idea of Myers in center field and moving TJ Friedl, the team's primary starter in center, to a corner outfield spot. That's an alignment the manager used last Thursday, and Francona told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com that he'll do that a few more times this spring. Myers could either serve as a right-handed hitting complement to Friedl, or the two elite outfield defenders could play the same day.

Whenever the Reds haven't had TJ Friedl available for a given game, they have had to compromise on defense in center field, but Myers addresses that shortcoming nicely. The only thing working against Myers is that the team otherwise has so many right-handed hitters, which might encourage them to carry both JJ Bleday and Will Benson instead.

The Marlins traded Myers (knee) to the Reds on Saturday in exchange for Ethan O'Donnell.

After signing JJ Bleday to a one-year deal earlier Saturday, the Reds will continue to bolster their outfield unit by bringing in Myers. The 29-year-old received his first extended look in the majors in 2025 and slashed .235/.291/.326 with 31 RBI, 29 runs scored and 18 steals across 333 plate appearances. His right-handed bat and career .816 OPS against southpaws may enable him to work in the short side of a platoon in the Reds' outfield. Otherwise, he'll provide depth to the big-league bench or head down to Triple-A Louisville.
