Dallas Braden has told Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle that he will retire. Braden is just 30 years old, but he's been unable to recover from multiple shoulder surgeries. He had been slated to throw for potentially interested teams at some point in January, but that obviously won't happen now. "There is nothing left in there, it's just a shredded mess," Braden said. "I left my arm on the mound at the Coliseum, and I'm OK with that." Braden has a perfect game on his resume and retires with a career 4.16 ERA over parts of five seasons.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Dallas Braden will host a showcase for interested teams at some point in January. The 30-year-old southpaw is recovering from shoulder surgery. His injury woes have kept him out of major league action since April of 2011. While he had proven to be an effective starter before the injury, he'll likely have to settle for an incentive-laden minor league contract this winter.

Dallas Braden (shoulder) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday and reported good control. But his fastball was only mid-80s. Braden hasn't pitched in a major league game since April 2011 due to shoulder problems and will almost certainly have to settle for a minor league contract this winter. The left-hander threw the 19th perfect game in MLB history on May 9, 2010 against the Rays.

Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown reports that Dallas Braden (shoulder) intends to pitch in 2014 and will likely have a workout or two for interested teams this winter. It's not clear at this point when those workouts would occur. Braden hasn't pitched since April of 2011 due to shoulder issues, but the 30-year-old isn't ready to give up on his career. He'll surely have to settle for a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.

Dallas Braden has elected to become a free agent. Braden was outrighted off the A's 40-man roster on Tuesday and refused an assignment to Triple-A Sacramento. The 29-year-old lefty has made only three starts since the opening of the 2011 season due to shoulder issues. He may have to settle for a minor league deal this winter.

Dallas Braden is expected to be non-tendered this offseason. Braden underwent surgery in late August to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder and is hoping to be 100 percent healthy by the All-Star break. Coming off a significant injury, he figures to be re-signed on a minor league contract.

Dallas Braden (shoulder) is hoping to be 100 percent healthy by the All-Star break next season. Braden underwent surgery in late August to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder -- an injury he suffered while rehabbing from a capsule procedure. The left-hander seems likely to be non-tendered by the A's this winter. He told reporters on Sunday evening that he would be open to returning on a minor league contract.

Dallas Braden (shoulder) had a bullpen session cut short Friday due to a left groin strain. The A's haven't commented on how far this might set Braden back, but Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle says it "could jeopardize" the lefty's potential return in September. The good news is that Braden's surgically-repaired shoulder is fine, and with the A's in playoff contention, the odds that he would make any meaningful starts down the stretch probably were long, anyway.

Dallas Braden (shoulder) threw a successful 20-pitch live batting practice session Friday in Arizona. Braden's next step will involve being cleared for a rehab assignment. It sounds like his latest recovery is going as planned, and, barring a setback, he should be an option for the starting rotation in early September.
