Mets signed RHP D.J. Mitchell to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Las Vegas. Mitchell was designated for assignment by the Mariners on April 11 and elected free agency two days later. The 25-year-old righty allowed seven hits and two runs in 4 2/3 innings last season with the Yankees. He will serve as organizational relief depth for the Mets.

D.J. Mitchell has elected free agency. Mitchell is best known as the player acquired in the Ichiro Suzuki deal last season. He cleared waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will look to latch on with another organization.

Mariners designated RHP D.J. Mitchell for assignment. The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Endy Chavez. Mitchell was designated for assignment over the winter, as well. He should again clear waivers and remain in the organization.

Mariners designated RHP D.J. Mitchell for assignment. The move cleared room for the newly-signed Raul Ibanez on the 40-man roster. Mitchell, who was acquired from the Yankees in the Ichiro deal, made four appearances in the majors this year and posted a 4.29 ERA over 22 starts and one relief appearance at the Triple-A level. The 25-year-old right-hander could draw interest on waivers.

Mariners recalled RHP D.J. Mitchell from Triple-A Tacoma. Mitchell put up a 4.29 ERA over 23 appearances -- 22 starts -- at Triple-A in 2012 and also made a few relief appearances for the Yankees before coming over in the Ichiro Suzuki deal. If he has a shot at a roster spot next year, it will likely be as a long man.

Mariners acquired RHPs D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar from the Yankees for OF Ichiro Suzuki and cash considerations. Mitchell made his major league debut earlier this year and has a 3.86 ERA over parts of four seasons in the minors, averaging 7.0 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9. The 25-year-old throws sits in the high-80s with his fastball and is known for his sinker. He could fit as a back-end starter or middle reliever in the big leagues.
