Cole Hamels will pitch in Wednesday's season finale on three days' rest.
He might not start the game, but he hopes to throw 75-80 pitches in the game, whenever he might appear. It might seem strange that the Phillies would bring him back on short rest with the playoffs looming, but they don't want Hamels to go too long in between appearances. Even after pitching Wednesday, he'll then have six days of rest before starting Game 3 of the NLDS. "I know I'm going to get some innings," said Hamels. "It's a matter of what innings I'm going to get. My arm feels really good. I don't feel I'm hitting all my spots as well as I can, so maybe it'll be one of those kind of starts, just enough to get it all down."

Cole Hamels yielded one run over seven innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Saturday afternoon.
Hamels limited the Mets to four hits while fanning seven and walking three. The only run scored on a pinch-hit solo home run by Val Pascucci in the bottom of the seventh inning. He has now allowed at least one home run in each of his last five starts. It's easy to be overshadowed by the excellence of Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee, but the 27-year-old southpaw finishes the regular season with a career-best 2.75 ERA and 0.98 WHIP.

Cole Hamels got roughed up by the Astros on Tuesday, allowing five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits and a home run in five innings of a loss.
Not the type of start you were expecting from the precocious lefty who entered Tuesday's plum matchup with a 2.60 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. Coming into this outing, he had pitched well in each of his three outings since retuning from the DL. He'll look to get back on track this weekend against the Cardinals.

Cole Hamels registered his third complete game of the season Thursday, limiting the Brewers to two runs on four hits and two walks in the 7-2 win.
It was a little surprising to see Phillies manager Charlie Manuel send Hamels out for the ninth with 102 pitches and a 7-2 lead, but the lefty required just nine pitches in a 1-2-3 inning to close it out. He served up a pair of homers for the second straight start, but luckily they were just solo shots. Hamels' shoulder issue is well in the rear-view mirror at this point, as he's pitched well in each of his three outings since retuning from the DL. He'll carry a 2.60 ERA and 0.95 WHIP into next week's start in Houston.

Cole Hamels was sublime in his return from the disabled list Monday, limiting the Reds to just one run on two hits and no walks over six innings in the 3-2 win.
He also struck out seven. Hamels walked away with a no-decision, but it was a dominating effort in a tough matchup, as he showed his fantasy owners that his pitching shoulder appears to be just fine. The owner of a brilliant 2.58 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, Hamels will take on the Marlins in his next trip to the hill.

Phillies activated LHP Cole Hamels from the 15-day disabled list.
Hamels' shoulder checked out fine during a bullpen session last week. He will return to the Phillies' starting rotation on Monday night against the Reds. The left-hander has posted a sparkling 2.62 ERA and 0.99 WHIP across 25 starts this year and is likely to draw National League Cy Young Award votes if he remains on track down the stretch.

Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said that Cole Hamels (shoulder) looked "absolutely fabulous" during a bullpen session Tuesday.
Good news. Hamels was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, but it was mostly done to arrange the Phillies' starting rotation moving forward. Barring any setbacks, the southpaw should be ready to return next Monday night against the Reds.

Phillies placed LHP Cole Hamels on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 13, with shoulder inflammation.
Hamels' shoulder injury is not overly serious, but the Phillies boast the best record in baseball and have the luxury of playing things safe from now until October. The lefty will return to action on Monday, August 29. He's posted a 2.62 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 25 starts this year.
