Cole Hamels (illness) allowed three earned runs over six innings Sunday against the Braves.
Hamels was scratched from a start last week because of a gastrointestinal illness and probably wasn't completely back to 100 percent health when he took the mound on Sunday. The 28-year-old lefty has a 3.04 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 183 1/3 innings this season.

Cole Hamels turned in a quality start in a no-decision against the Reds on Thursday, surrendering three runs on six hits over his six innings.
Hamels punched out four and walked three in the game. Todd Frazier was responsible for all of the damage, plating the first run with an RBI groundout in the first inning, and adding a two-run double in the sixth. He's been outstanding over five starts in the month of August, compiling a 3-1 record, 1.86 ERA and 34/6 K/BB ratio over 38 2/3 innings. He'll look to continue rolling when he squares off against the Mets at home on Wednesday.

That part of the stat line isn't very exciting, but Hamels struck out 10 and walked just one while throwing 75 of his 107 pitches for strikes. The left-hander will carry a stellar 2.94 ERA and 1.11 WHIP into his next scheduled outing vs. the National League Central-leading Reds.

Cole Hamels was masterful in Tuesday's shutout victory over the Braves, scattering five hits while walking none and striking out six.
It was Hamels' fifth career shutout and first since the 2009 season. All five Atlanta hits were singles, and the Braves never mounted a serious scoring threat. Hamels is now rocking a 12-6 record, a 3.16 ERA and a 153/40 K/BB ratio over 154 2/3 innings. He'll look to keep things rolling when he takes on the Marlins in Miami on Monday.

Cole Hamels turned in a quality start in Thursday's loss to the Nationals, surrendering three runs on eight hits over his seven innings of work.
Hamels piled up nine strikeouts while walking just one in the game. Adam LaRoche blasted a solo homer in the second inning, then added a run scoring single in the third inning to provide the bulk of the damage. He has now allowed three or more earned runs in each of his last three outings, but still sports a sparkling 11-6 record, 3.34 ERA and 147/40 K/BB ratio in 145 2/3 innings on the season. He'll look to get back in the win column when he takes on the Braves at home on Tuesday.

Cole Hamels struggled badly with his command in Friday's loss to the Braves, walking a season-high six while allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits over his five innings.
Hamels did manage to record seven strikeouts in the game, but had difficulty all night locating his pitches. He allowed a pair of unearned runs in the second inning, but bounced back nicely before getting into trouble in the fifth where Brian McCann belted a three-run homer. Still, Hamels is enjoying another terrific season, posting an 11-5 record, 3.31 ERA and 138/39 K/BB ratio over 138 2/3 innings. He'll try to put this one behind him and get back in the win column when he takes on the Nationals in Washington on Thursday.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Phillies and Cole Hamels have agreed to a six-year, $144 million extension.
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported early Wednesday morning that a deal was close while ESPN's Buster Olney was the first to report that an agreement was reached. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the contract will also include a vesting option for a seventh year that could make the contract worth more than $160 million. This is the richest contract in Phillies history and the second-richest contract ever given to a pitcher, trailing only the seven-year, $161 million contract the Yankees gave to CC Sabathia prior to the 2009 season. The Phillies knew they would have to pay a premium to keep Hamels from testing free agency and they did it.
