Bergman was released by the Mariners on Thursday, Tacoma radio broadcaster Mike Curto reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bergman struggled to a 9.57 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB in 26.1 innings (six starts, two relief appearances) with Triple-A Tacoma before being cut loose by the Mariners. The 31-year-old will look to latch on elsewhere as organizational pitching depth.

Bergman agreed to a minor-league contract Wednesday with the Mariners and will report to Triple-A Tacoma, Tacoma radio broadcaster Mike Curto reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bergman failed to win an Opening Day roster spot with the Cubs coming out of spring training and was granted his release in March. After taking some time to assess his options, Bergman will return to the organization where he spent the past two seasons. The right-hander logged three appearances with the big club in 2018 but saw the overwhelming share of his action at Tacoma, where he compiled a 5.08 ERA and 1.47 WHIP across 141.2 innings.

EDGE Analysis

The Cubs reassigned Bergman to their minor-league camp Saturday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bergman had three appearances (two starts) with the Mariners in 2018, compiling a 5.79 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 14 innings. He didn't fare much better during a more extended stint in the Pacific Coast League (5.08 ERA, 1.47 WHIP in 141.2 innings) and will be little more than organizational pitching depth in the high minors for the Cubs this season.

Bergman signed a minor-league contract with Chicago including an invitiation to spring training, Mariners Minors reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bergman was let go by the Mariners at the end of the 2018 campaign, so he'll aim for a better outcome with the Cubs. His time in the major leagues has been limited so far in his career, appearing posting a 5.59 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 130 punchouts over 215.2 frames across stops in Colorado and Seattle.

Bergman has been at Tacoma since mid-August, and will remain there after being removed from the 40-man roster. The 30-year-old allowed nine runs -- including four home runs -- across 14 innings with the Mariners this season.

Bergman was recalled by the Mariners on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Bergman is up to take the roster spot which belonged to James Paxton, who hit the disabled list with a forearm contusion. It's unclear if he'll also be taking Paxton's spot in the rotation or if that job will go to Felix Hernandez. The fact that Bergman was called up five days before Paxton's next turn suggests that he's likely up in a relief role, however, as it would be a waste of a roster spot to call up a starter just to have him sit on the bench for several days.

Bergman was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This only makes sense, as Bergman just pitched Friday and he wouldn't have been of any use to Seattle over the final two days of the first half. Bergman was knocked around in his start Friday, allowing five runs over 4.1 innings, and it's uncertain if he will get another opportunity to start immediately out of the break. It's possible with James Paxton (back), Marco Gonzales (calf) and Felix Hernandez (back) all banged up.

Bergman (0-1) allowed five earned runs on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in a loss to the Rockies on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Called up from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day, Bergman predictably scuffled in Coors Field's thin air, getting only 39 of 66 pitches into the strike zone and allowing a pair of home runs to Charlie Blackmon and Trevor Story. The right-hander also failed to record a strikeout, and although he helped his own cause with an RBI single, it was a rocky night overall. With the All-Star break on the horizon and manager Scott Servais therefore afforded considerable flexibility with his short-handed starting rotation, Bergman appears destined to head back down to the Rainiers.
