General manager Neal Huntington said Sunday that Stratton (side) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Indianapolis this week, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Stratton will move on to the next phase of his recovery from the side injury after throwing a one-inning simulated game Saturday without any discomfort. Though the Pirates' rotation depth has taken a hit in recent weeks with injuries to Jameson Taillon (elbow), Trevor Williams (side) and Rookie Davis (finger) in addition to Nick Kingham being designated for assignment, Stratton is still expected to fill a multi-inning relief role once he returns from the 10-day injured list.

EDGE Analysis
Stratton has been on the shelf since May 25 with a side injury. He remains without a timetable for his return at the moment, though one will hopefully come into focus after he faces live hitters. Stratton owns a 7.88 ERA, 1.99 WHIP and 30:20 K:BB in 37.2 innings (five starts, six relief appearances) this season.

Stratton allowed one hit in a scoreless inning Sunday, earning his first victory of the season in a 10-6 decision over St. Louis.
EDGE Analysis
General manager Neal Huntington said Sunday that Stratton will serve as a multiple-inning reliever. He also stated that the 28-year-old could compete for the fifth starter's spot, even after Chris Archer returns from the injured list. His numbers with Anaheim were dreadful -- 8.29 ERA and 2.08 WHIP in 29.1 innings -- but he'll get another chance in the more pitching-friendly National League.

Stratton was traded from the Angels to the Pirates in exchange for cash considerations Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Stratton couldn't get the job done in Los Angeles, recording an 8.59 ERA in 29.1 innings. That comes on the back of a 5.09 ERA in 145 innings for the Giants last season. Nick Burdi (biceps) was moved to the 60-day injured list to clear a space for Stratton on the 40-man roster, but a move to clear a spot on the 25-man roster has not yet been announced.

Stratton was designated for assignment by the Angels on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Stratton was acquired in a trade from San Francisco just two days before Opening Day. He struggled greatly though five starts and two relief appearances, posting an 8.59 ERA and a 22:18 K:BB. He'll make way for Cody Allen (back), who was activated form the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Stratton was moved to the bullpen ahead of the Angels' series with the Royals over the weekend, Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
After posting a 7.04 ERA and 2.00 WHIP through his first five starts of 2019, Stratton lost his rotation spot when Tyler Skaggs (ankle) was reinstated from the injured list. Stratton's first foray into relief work wasn't overly promising, as he mopped up for 2.1 innings in Saturday's loss and was charged with two runs on four hits and a walk. He'll likely continue to work mainly in low-leverage situations out of the bullpen.
