Although he threw 85 pitches during the start, the Mariners will elect to line him up on short rest for the team's final game prior to the All-Star break. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 28-year-old on a slight pitch count during Sunday's matchup in Texas.

Flexen (6-8) picked up the win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Nationals, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over six innings in a 6-4 victory. He struck out one.

The game is being made up via a doubleheader Wednesday, and Flexen figures to start one of those contests. The postponement means it's likely to be his last outing before the All-Star break.

Flexen is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday in Washington against the Nationals rather than in Sunday's series finale with the Blue Jays in Seattle, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

After getting the Independence Day start against the Padres, Flexen appeared primed for a two-start week, but the Mariners instead used Wednesday's off day to reorder their rotation. EDGE Analysis

Flexen now has a personal winning streak going for the first time this season. After an ugly month of May, Flexen pitched to a respectable 4.09 ERA in June. His 1.45 WHIP and 21:12 K:BB in 33 innings in the month of June bode poorly for his chances of enjoying a similar level of run prevention moving forward.

Flexen (3-8) earned the win Friday versus the Angels. He allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three in five-plus innings.
