Devenski is expected to be part of the Astros' bullpen when the regular season starts, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. The 29-year-old right-hander has not allowed a run on four hits and one walk while striking out five over 5.1 spring innings.
EDGE Analysis
The Astros hope to see the Devenski of 2017, a season in which he struck out 11.1 batters per nine innings and was named an All-Star. Since then, his K/9 dropped in successive seasons along with an increase in HR/9 (1.7). He's slipped behind Ryan Pressly and Joe Smith in terms of high-leverage relief work.

Devenski signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Astros on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team declined his $2.63 million club option for 2020 in November, but the 29-year-old will stick around on a lesser deal while avoiding arbitration. Devenski had another up-and-down season in 2019 with a 4.83 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 72:21 K:BB over 69 innings.

Devenski's option was declined by the Astros on Monday, but he remains on the roster as he's still arbitration-eligible, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Devenski received a somewhat odd contract back in February, which gave the Astros the opportunity of locking him in for 2020 at a predetermined price or going back through the arbitration process. They'll choose the latter following his mediocre 4.83 ERA in 69 innings.

Devenski was added to the Astros' World Series roster, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Astros' lone change from the ALCS sees Devenski join the team in place of Bryan Abreu. Devenski has yet to pitch in the playoffs and posted an unremarkable 4.83 ERA in 69 regular-season innings.

Devenski (2-2) was charged with the loss against the A's on Thursday, allowing a solo home run while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Devenski came into the eighth inning with the score tied, 6-6, and gave up a homer to Matt Chapman to give the A's the lead for good. The right-hander has functioned mostly in middle relief for the Astros this season, posting a forgettable 4.42 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.

Devenski (2-1) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits over two innings.
EDGE Analysis
Pressed into emergency starting duty when Gerrit Cole strained his hamstring in the bullpen while warming up, Devenski got tagged for all three runs in the second inning and got stuck with the decision when the Astros couldn't solve Ivan Nova. Devenski should return to middle-relief work after this due to his pedestrian 4.33 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 60:17 K:BB through 54 innings on the year.

Devenski is starting Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the White Sox, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.
EDGE Analysis
Scheduled starter Gerrit Cole was scratched shortly before first pitch for undisclosed reasons, pushing Devenski into the start on short notice. The 28-year-old threw 25 pitches in Sunday's relief appearance, so he should be limited to a couple innings as the Astros are forced into a bullpen game.

Devenski earned his third hold of the season in Tuesday's 9-8 win over the Rockies after striking out two and issuing a walk during an inning of relief.
EDGE Analysis
Once one of baseball's standout late-inning arms, Devenski has plummeted in Houston's bullpen hierarchy over the past season and a half, as his low hold total illustrates. While he steered clear of a blowup performance at Coors Field, Devenski has been vulnerable to the long ball in more pitcher-friendly environments in 2019 and will need to string together several quality outings in a row before recapturing a meaningful setup role.

Devenski struck out one and did not allow a hit in a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in Tuesday's 9-1 win over the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Devenski mopped up the final two outs for his third scoreless outing in five appearances. Tuesday's effort was the first of the five in which the right-hander did not allow a baserunner. Devenski will be used in a variety of roles out of the bullpen and has posted 8:1 K:BB though six innings.

Devenski allowed one run on three hits and struck out three over two innings in a 3-1 loss to the Rays on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Devenski entered to pitch the seventh inning with the Astros down a run and threw one clean inning before getting nicked for a run in the eighth. The right-handed reliever made a name for himself in 2017, delivering a high strikeout rate as a multi-inning reliever. He was on his way to a repeat performance in 2018, albeit without the multi-inning appearances, before a midseason hamstring injury derailed him. Earlier this spring, Devenski told Brian McTaggart of MLB.com that he learned about the process of being prepared daily and to take measures to ensure his body is ready to pitch as much as possible. His first outing of 2019 was an encouraging sign he'll be used as he was in 2017. "He fits right into our bullpen anywhere from early for a couple of innings or all the way to the back end if guys are needing a break," manager AJ Hinch said.
