Utley is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports.
EDGE Analysis
Howie Kendrick's return from the disabled list will take Utley out of the lineup for at least Tuesday's contest. That said, the injuries piling up in the Dodgers' outfield, including Scott Van Slyke's placement on the disabled list Tuesday, will lead to Kendrick getting some work in left field according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick. As such, Utley figures to retain a regular role in the Dodgers' infield for the time being.

Utley is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
With San Francisco ace Madison Bumgarner on the mound, manager Dave Roberts will fit all the right-handed bats he can into Saturday's lineup. Utley is 2-for-12 in his career against Bumgarner, so Enrique Hernandez will take his spot at second on Saturday and he'll bat leadoff as well.

Utley will lead off again Tuesday, SB Nation's Eric Stephen reports.
EDGE Analysis
He went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBI in Monday's game, so manager Dave Roberts obviously has no reason to make a change at the top of the lineup. Utley should offer sneaky value in the early going while Howie Kendrick is sidelined.

Manager Dave Roberts mentioned Utley as a candidate to lead off on Opening Day, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Howie Kendrick down with a calf injury and still not cleared to resume baseball activities as of Wednesday, the door is open for Utley to see significant time at second base at the start the season. He's even being considered as a possible tablesetter in Kendrick's absence, but it would make sense if Utley gave way to Enrique Hernandez at second against left-handed pitching.

Utley should see the majority of the second base at-bats for at least the first week of the season with Howie Kendrick dealing with a calf injury.
EDGE Analysis
The Dodgers haven't ruled out a DL stint for Kendrick just yet, but either way, it's hard to see Utley providing much value this year outside of deep NL-only leagues. He is hitting .311/.340/.533 this spring. Enrique Hernandez would also see time at second.

Utley will not serve a 2-game suspension for his takeout slide on Ruben Tejada during the NLDS, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Utley's slide was rough enough that it helped spark a revision of the neighborhood play, but MLB has deemed it legal under the rules at the time. Going forward, a slide like Utley's, which resulted in a broken leg for Tejada, will be considered illegal, hopefully leading to fewer injuries for middle infielders.

Utley agreed to a one-year deal with the Dodgers on Sunday, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Utley was likely looking for a team willing to give him a starting job or at least real shot at one, but his deal with the Dodgers is a decent indicator that he didn't find one. Barring any injuries or major moves by the Dodgers, he'll compete with Enrique Hernandez and Jose Peraza for playing time at second base while working as the typical veteran bench presence. He'll have to work to improve on career worsts last season in batting average and OPS, but selective bench appearances could help with that.

Utley had his team option declined by the Dodgers on Friday, Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Utley struggled in Los Angeles following an August trade, hitting just .202 in 124 at bats, and he wasn't much better before the move as he slashed .217/.284/.333 in Philadelphia. Almost 37 years old, Utley is no longer a particularly strong force at the plate, and it's unlikely that he'll find a full-time starting role anywhere in free agency.

Utley's appeal hearing is scheduled for next Monday, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Utley, who is appealing his two-game suspension following an illegal slide that broke Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada's leg, will be eligible to play for the entirety of the NLDS. However, with Mets' rookie left-hander Steven Matz set to take the mound in Game 4, Utley will likely serve as a pinch-hitter in the crucial matchup.

Utley will appeal his suspension and be eligible to play in Monday's Game 3 of the NLDS against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Utley was initially suspended two games as a result of an illegal slide in Saturday's contest, but the appeal likely will not be heard either Monday or Tuesday, making him active for both Game 3 and 4. He is not in the starting lineup Monday, as Howie Kendrick will get the nod at the keystone and lead off.
