Johnson was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson was a roster casualty with the Giants requiring additional room on the 40-man for the more well-regarded prospects the organization wanted to protect from the Rule 5 draft. The right-hander pitched exclusively at Double-A Richmond in 2018, registering a 3.86 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 58.1 innings.

Johnson (concussion) was reinstated from the 7-day disabled list Thursday and tossed three scoreless innings for Double-A Richmond.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson was sidelined for just under two weeks with the head injury. The 26-year-old has maintained a shiny 1.52 ERA over his eight starts this season, but he hasn't been asked to cover more than four innings in any outings and has only generated 15 strikeouts over 23.2 innings. The lack of strikeout production along with the fact that he's well above the median age for the Eastern League doesn't make Johnson a pitcher worth tracking in dynasty formats.

Johnson (elbow) was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson didn't appear in any spring games for the Giants, as he's in the process of recovering from Tommy John surgery. He had the procedure in May of 2017, so once he's ready to return, Johnson should return to his bullpen role with Sacramento.

Johnson underwent Tommy John surgery last week, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson was placed on the disabled list at the latter end of April with an undisclosed injury. Unfortunately, he ended up needing Tommy John surgery to correct the issue. Due to the extensive rehab time that goes with the procedure, Johnson will likely aim to return at some point in the 2018 season.

Johnson -- who made a successful switch to a reliever last season -- is expected to continue in that role this season, CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson showed an ability to strike out batters in the minors as a starter, but he never put it all together for consistent success. After struggling in his first seven starts with Double-A Richmond lasts season, the organization decided to go in a different with the 25-year-old and converted him into a reliever. The results were fantastic. Johnson turned in a 2.30 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in his 17 appearances as a reliever. He will likely begin the year at Triple-A Sacramento to see if he can repeat his newfound success at a higher level.

Johnson was added to the Giants' 40-man roster Friday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
The final numbers for Johnson in 2016 look rather pedestrian but he was significantly better after transitioning to the bullpen in late May, posting a 2.30 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB in 15.2 innings. He turned in eight straight scoreless appearances for Double-A Richmond to close the season.
