Brewer was released by the Indians Sunday. Brewer was acquired by the Indians in November for cash considerations. He did not appear in a game for AAA Columbus.

The Indians acquired Brewer from the Diamondbacks on Saturday in exchange for cash considerations, the Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports. Brewer made a brief stay with the Diamondbacks in 2013 but has spent most of his career in the minors, posting a 4.09 ERA, 7.8 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9. The right-hander will be 27 next season and will likely serve as rotational depth for Cleveland.

Brewer was designated for assignment Thursday, Nick Piecoro of AZ Central Sports reports. Brewer began last season at Triple-A Reno but struggled to a 4.99 ERA over 126.1 innings. He was demoted to Double-A Mobile, where he turned things around to post a 2.91 ERA and 1.154 WHIP with 42 strikeouts and 14 walks.
