Kuhl will have his next start pushed back to Saturday's doubleheader after Friday's matchup with the Pirates was postponed, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kuhl will now have an extra day to gear up for Pittsburgh's red-hot lineup, as he's expected to take the mound for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com. The right-hander has struggled on the mound this season, allowing five homers and 12 free passes over 18.1 innings in four outings this year.

Kuhl did not factor into the decision Saturday as he allowed one run on three hits and four walks over 3.2 innings against Minnesota. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Kuhl allowed just the one run against the Minnesota lineup, but he was far from efficient; needing 96 pitches to get 10 outs and throwing only 49 strikes. That being said, the only blemish came on a solo home run he allowed in the third inning to Byron Buxton. It's the best start of the year for Kuhl, but that's not saying much considering he entered the contest with a 8.59 ERA and 9:8 K:BB over 14.2 innings. Kuhl has shown flashes of competence in his career, but there just isn't enough consistency to trust him as a fantasy option.

Kuhl (0-1) took the loss Saturday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.2 innings against Cleveland. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Kuhl was spotted a three-run lead after the first inning, but he couldn't take advantage and allowed at least four runs for a third straight start. Across three appearances (14.2 innings), the right-hander has surrendered 14 runs and eight walks while striking out just nine during that stretch. Kuhl's next start is tentatively scheduled for Washington's upcoming three-game set in Minnesota.

Kuhl yielded five runs on six hits and four walks over five innings during Sunday's loss to Colorado. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Kuhl gave up just one run through three innings before Elias Diaz and Jurickson Profar went deep in the fourth and fifth frames, respectively. Colorado then scored four runs in the sixth, with two more being charged to Kuhl. He's allowed nine runs through 10 innings to begin the season. The veteran righty is expected to face Cleveland at home next weekend.

Kuhl didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Rays, giving up four runs on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander wasn't great, tossing 51 of 81 pitches for strikes, but he exited the game with Washington holding a 5-4 lead and was in line for the win until Kyle Finnegan melted down in the ninth inning. The Nats will be happy if Kuhl can simply give them a chance to win when he goes to the mound, and injuries have left the 30-year-old with little competition for his rotation spot despite his lackluster career 4.77 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 7.9 K/9. The former Rockie lines up for a start in his old Coors Field stomping grounds in his next outing.

The Nationals selected Kuhl's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Kuhl is set to serve as the club's fifth start to open the season, although he's no lock to remain in the role for long. He posted a 5.72 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 137 innings for the Rockies last season.

Kuhl gave up one run on four hits and a walk over five innings during Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander put together his best spring performance yet, and he appears to be on track to open the season as the Nationals' fifth starter with Stephen Strasburg (ribs/shoulder) seemingly no closer to returning. Kuhl's overall spring numbers haven't been great though, including a 9:5 K:BB through 12.1 innings, and if he struggles early, the Nats could turn to the likes of Wily Peralta or Rule 5 pick Thad Ward.

The Nationals are preparing to have Kuhl be a member of their Opening Day rotation after Cade Cavalli suffered an elbow injury in his Grapefruit League start Tuesday, MASNSports.com reports. "Chad Kuhl, right now, is going to get an opportunity to probably start if Cade can't do it," manager Dave Martinez said Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Washington won't know the full scope of Cavalli's injury until the results of his MRI are read later Wednesday, but given that he's a young pitcher who previously had his 2022 season come to an early end due to shoulder discomfort, he appears to be a good bet to open the season on the injured list even if his upcoming scan reveals no severe setback. The 30-year-old Kuhl made 27 starts for the Rockies last season and posted a 5.72 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 137 innings, but the Nationals were encouraged enough by his peripheral statistics to bring him aboard on a minor-league deal this winter and are hopeful that the move from the high altitude in Colorado will allow his breaking pitches to play up more. Kuhl has been worked out of the bullpen in three of his four spring appearances to date, but since he covered three innings in his most recent outing Monday, he won't require much time to get stretched out for a starting role.

Kuhl (triceps) has made two relief appearances thus far during the Nationals' Grapefruit League slate, covering two innings and giving up five runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
For most of his six seasons in the big leagues, Kuhl has functioned as a starter, but his usage thus far in the spring suggests that the Nationals are having him compete for a bullpen role. He hasn't made a strong early case to make the Opening Day roster, however, and the fact that he's attending camp as a non-roster invitee likely works against him in his bid to avoid being cut prior to the end of spring training.

Kuhl (triceps) signed with the Nationals as a non-roster invitee Saturday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Kuhl produced passable ERAs between 4.20 and 4.82 for five straight seasons in Pittsburgh between 2016 and 2021, but his ERA spiked up to 5.72 last season following a move to Colorado. The 30-year-old could have a path to a rotation spot should he recapture his previous form, though he'll also have to prove he's recovered from the right triceps strain which sent him to the injured list at the tail end of last season.
