Rockies optioned RHP Chad Bettis to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Bettis gave up nine runs over eight appearances during his latest stint with the big club. He has a nice arm, but the righty has yet to put it together at the major league level.

Rockies recalled RHP Chad Bettis from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Bettis was just optioned five days ago, but Tyler Chatwood's injury opened the door for his return. His first go-round with the club wasn't great -- Bettis returns with a 7.15 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 7/3 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings of relief at the major league level.

Rockies optioned RHP Chad Bettis to Triple-A Colorado Springs. The 24-year-old has struggled out of the Rockies bullpen, posting a 7.15 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 7/3 K/BB ratio over his 11 1/3 innings. It's unclear if he'll continue to function in relief in the minor leagues or will transition back to the starting rotation.

Chad Bettis struggled for the first time this spring on Tuesday, allowing one run on two walks and a hit in one inning of work against the White Sox. The run was the first allowed by Bettis this spring, as the 24-year-old had previously made eight scoreless appearances during which he allowed only three hits and posted a 9/1 K/BB. Bettis struggled last season in the major leagues after debuting in early August, posting a 5.64 ERA and 30/20 K/BB in 44.2 innings while appearing in 16 games (eight starts). He's expected to open 2014 in Colorado's bullpen.

Chad Bettis was pulled after three scoreless innings in Sunday's loss to the Padres, due to the Rockies wanting to get Roy Oswalt in the game. Oswalt was expected to piggyback Bettis in the start, but after Bettis allowed just two hits and fanned four through three shutout innings, you would've liked to see them stick with him a bit longer. Bettis still owns a troubling 5.02 ERA and 23/18 K/BB ratio through 37 2/3 innings on the season, and can safely be avoided when he takes on the Diamondbacks in Arizona next week.

Chad Bettis was lit up for five runs on eight hits and four walks over 4 2/3 innings in Monday's loss to the Dodgers. Bettis also hit a batter in the ugly performance. Now with a 5.45 ERA over seven starts this season, he's a candidate to lose his rotation spot when Roy Oswalt (hamstring) returns from the disabled list. As it stands right now, he's in line to face the Padres at Petco over the weekend.
