Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Thursday that Casey Blake will undergo neck surgery next week. Blake has tried to play through a pinched nerve in his neck for the past two months, but has finally decided to go under the knife. The 38-year-old third baseman was limited to just 63 games this season, batting .252/.342/.371 with four homers and a .713 OPS over 239 plate appearances. His contract includes a $6 million club option for 2012, but the Dodgers will almost certainly buy him out for $1.5 million. He faces a very uncertain future.

Casey Blake (shoulder) hit off a tee Sunday. Blake has missed four straight games with pain in the back of his right shoulder and doesn't anticipate the discomfort going away until the winter. The Dodgers will have to put him on the 15-day disabled list for the fourth time this season if he doesn't begin showing improvement soon.

Casey Blake (shoulder) is expected to miss a "couple days." Blake has been experiencing pain in the back of his right shoulder and will take some time off to get it cooled down. He left Wednesday's game early and did not play Thursday. Aaron Miles started at third base.

Casey Blake left Wednesday's game in the sixth inning with pain in the back of his right shoulder. It's unclear if it might be related to the neck/shoulder issue that has plagued Blake for most of the season. The Dodgers are listing him as day-to-day.

Casey Blake (neck) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Saturday. Blake went 0-for-4 in his first minor league rehab game with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday and is scheduled to play again Friday night. The veteran third baseman has been sidelined since early July with a cervical strain. Juan Uribe, who has been bothered by a hip flexor strain this week, could take his place on the disabled list.

Casey Blake (neck) was given a cortisone injection. Blake has been unable to find an effective treatment option for the cervical strain in his neck. And the Dodgers don't seem optimistic that he'll be back soon. "We've given him some time off, we've given him some cortisone trying to get relief and to this point nothing's really made us go 'that (pain's) going to be gone,'" Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. The third baseman is out indefinitely.

Casey Blake (neck) isn't sure he'll return. Blake and the Dodgers have been unable to find a suitable treatment option for his cervical strain, as he's still feeling pain. "I'm about as frustrated as I've been as a player," Blake said. He's been on the DL three times this season, with two of the occasions neck related. Consider him out indefinitely.
