Moncrief was designated for assignment by the Giants, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Giants decided reliever Roberto Gomez was more deserving of a roster spot, so they made the swap ahead of Tuesday's game. Moncrief went 8-for-38 with one extra-base hit during his time with the Giants and he's hit just .257/.331/.409 in parts of three seasons at Triple-A.

Moncrief started in right field and went 0-for-3 in Saturday's win over St. Louis.
EDGE Analysis
Moncrief is slashing .222/.268/.250 in 41 plate appearances with the Giants. The 28-year-old rookie has started just six games since being called up at the end of July.

Moncrief got the start in right field Monday, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in an 8-5 loss to the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old rookie received his first start in the majors and responded with his first hit and RBI of his career. He was filling in for Hunter Pence (rest) on Monday, so it is unclear if the Giants plan to give him more looks in the outfield going forward, or if he will continue to be used primarily off the bench. Moncrief earned his call up by batting .287 with Triple-A Sacramento this season, but with just two home runs and four steals in 190 minor-league plate appearances, he doesn't project as a useful fantasy option even if he were to get an extended look at some point this season.

Moncrief's contract was purchased from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Formerly a pitcher in the Indians organization, Moncrief reinvented himself as an outfielder and has found some success in the minors this season (.770 OPS in 71 games). With the Giants' outfielder depleted by injuries, he'll head to the big leagues to offer some depth to the team, although it's unlikely that he'll get close to regular playing time given that the current starters at each spot have been playing well.

Moncrief was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Friday. The Indians added Moncrief to their 40-man roster back in November ahead of the Rule 5 draft, but the 26-year-old was never believed to have a realistic shot at an Opening Day roster spot. Moncrief, who went 6-for-25 (.240 average) with one extra-base hit (a double) in spring ball, will look to build on the .271/.328/.431 line he posted at Triple-A a year ago.
