Correa has gone 5-for-38 (.135) over the past 10 games, but perhaps the home run will boost his confidence as he tries to leave an extended sophomore slump behind him.

Correa is out of the lineup Sunday against the Angels, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The shortstop's sophomore slump has lingered longer than expected, as he's gone just 4-for-37 (.108) over his past nine games to sink his season average to .241. He's likely just getting Sunday's game off to clear his head, enabling Marwin Gonzalez to pick up a start at shortstop. Look for Correa to be back in the lineup Monday against the Diamondbacks.

Correa went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox.

That's more like what fantasy owners were expecting when they made Correa a first-round pick before the season.

Correa went 3-for-5 with a double, a homer, three RBI and a trio of runs scored Wednesday in a 16-4 blowout of the Twins.

EDGE Analysis

Since homering three times in the first two games of the season, Correa has proceeded to slump pretty badly -- over a 24-game span prior to Wednesday, he went 19-for-84 (.226) with no homers, just one steal, six RBI and eight runs. Those aren't exactly the superstar stats we were hyped up to expect from him, but it's not surprising to see a 21-year-old embarking on his first full season in the majors hitting some peaks and valleys. With this big game, his average (.276) and OPS (.857) are almost exactly in line with last season's numbers.

Correa will be out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.

Correa has played in all 12 of the Astros' games to date, and after going 1-for-14 over the most recent four contests, manager A.J. Hinch decided it was best to give the 21-year-old a day off. Correa made his Grapefruit League debut Friday, going 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored against the Cardinals.
