The Padres extended an invitation to Quantrill for spring training.
EDGE Analysis
Quantrill split the 2017 season between the High A- and Double-A levels after earning a promotion to San Antonio in mid-July. Over eight starts with the club -- during his first opportunity in Double-A -- he posted a 4.04 ERA and 1.62 WHIP with a 34:16 K:BB in 42.1 innings. This marked his first full year as a professional after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2015, which has hampered his projection as a front-end starter for the future. Spring training will be a good test to see how the 23-year-old fares against major-league hitting for the first time, and whether there's enough potential for him to possibly earn a late-season call-up during the 2018 campaign.

Quantrill, 22, has a 3.38 ERA and 20:8 K:BB in 29.1 innings since being promoted to Double-A San Antonio.
EDGE Analysis
The stats certainly aren't terrible for Quantrill, though his strikeouts are down and his walks are up since the promotion. Quantrill has made a successful return from Tommy John surgery, though it remains to be seen if his lanky frame will hold up to the rigors of being a starting pitcher, and he must continue the development of a third pitch. Nevertheless, he is one of the better pitching prospects for the Padres.

Quantrill will head to Double-A San Antonio on Tuesday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Quantrill had been pitching well for Lake Elsinore during his first year at the High-A level. In 14 starts, Quantrill accumulated a 3.67 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP. His 76:24 K:BB over the course of 73.2 innings is promising for the 21-year-old, especially while working his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2015. The right-hander is one of the top pitching prospects in the Padres system, and could make his way to Triple-A by 2018 if he continues on his current progression.

Quantrill, 22, has a 3.80 ERA and 50:17 K:BB in 47.1 innings for High-A Lake Elsinore.
EDGE Analysis
Quantrill has been impressive in the hitter-friendly confines of the California League, striking out more than a batter per inning while showing no ill effects from his 2015 Tommy John procedure. His innings will likely be limited this season, but the Padres have to be pleased with what they've seen so far.

Quantrill gave up one run on two hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings in his debut start for High-A Lake Elsinore.
EDGE Analysis
The 22-year-old righty is probably a bit overqualified for High-A, but he entered the season with just 37 innings under his belt since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2015 while at Stanford, so the Padres will keep the training wheels on to some extent at the beginning of the season. It is unclear what type of innings cap he faces this year, but it would not be surprising if he pitched his way to Double-A by the end of the season. He has No. 2 starter upside.
