Marlowe was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday after clearing waivers.

Marlowe was DFA'd by the Mariners this past Monday in order to make room on the 40-man roster for Jorge Polanco (knee). Marlowe wasn't claimed off waivers, so he'll remain in Seattle's organization and will head to Triple-A for the start of the 2025 campaign. He spent most of the 2024 season with Tacoma, where he slashed .235/.341/.395 with 43 stolen bases, 13 home runs and 45 RBI over 411 plate appearances.

The Mariners designated Marlowe for assignment Monday, Adam Jude of the Seattle Times reports.

Marlowe received his promotion from Triple-A Tacoma following the placement of Julio Rodriguez (ankle) and J.P. Crawford (finger) on the injured list, but he's logged only eight plate appearances across seven games since arriving in Seattle.

Marlowe, called up from Triple-A Tacoma earlier in the day, went 1-for-2 with a walk in a loss to the Angels on Tuesday.

Marlowe was making his 2024 big-league debut and started in right field as part of the domino effect of Julio Rodriguez's (ankle) placement on the injured list. The 27-year-old Marlowe posted a respectable .239/.330/.420 slash line across his first 100 major-league plate appearances a season ago, and he'd been having a decent campaign with Tacoma from an OBP perspective (.341) while also dazzling to the tune of 43 stolen bases. However, strikeouts have been a fairly persistent issue for Marlowe throughout his pro career, so it remains to be seen if that will continue to serve as a drag on his overall numbers against the highest level of competition.

Marlowe was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Marlowe was last seen in the majors in the second half of the 2023 season when he slashed .239/.330/.420 with three home runs and 11 RBI across his first 34 big-league games. He's generated a slashed .235 average and .736 OPS across 90 games with the Rainiers this minor-league season, and his return to the majors comes with Julio Rodriguez (ankle) and J.P. Crawford (hand) both landing on the 10-day injured list.

Marlowe will probably be needed at some point, especially with the injury-prone Mitch Haniger slated for everyday left field duties. For now, though, he'll head to Tacoma where he will play regularly.

The 26-year-old, who's capable of slotting in across the outfield, had opened spring training in a brief 0-for-6 skid before Thursday's breakout.

While Kelenic had been sidelined since July 20 with the foot injury, Marlowe enjoyed about a month-long run as the Mariners' primary left fielder, but he had faded into more of a fourth- or fifth-outfielder role in recent weeks. Marlowe ends his first stint in the big leagues with a .239/.330/.420 slash line to go with three home runs, four stolen bases, 11 RBI and 14 runs over 100 plate appearances.

Marlowe remains out of the lineup Friday versus the Royals.

Marlowe got off to a terrific start when the Mariners first called him up from Triple-A Tacoma on July 20, but he has gone 4-for-33 (.121) with 15 strikeouts over his last 10 games. Dominic Canzone is playing left field for Seattle on Friday after Dylan Moore drew the start there in Wednesday's series finale against the White Sox.
