Manager Pete Mackanin dropped Hernandez to eighth in the batting order Tuesday and said he wants to see improvement from his second baseman, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mackanin said Hernandez, who is hitting .256 after going 1-for-3 Tuesday, needs to make adjustments. He expects him to be hitting .280. Hernandez needs to hit this season to stay in the mix for a starting job next year. J.P. Crawford could be the Phillies' starter at shortstop next season which would create competition between Freddy Galvis and Hernandez for playing time at second base.

Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored in the Phillies' 6-5 win over the Marlins on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Hernandez raised his batting average to .267 with the performance. He has swiped just two bases this season after stealing 19 last season in 127 games with the Phillies. His stolen base total would be better if he hadn't been caught four times already this season.

Hernandez was moved to the top of the Phillies' lineup Tuesday against the Padres, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports.
EDGE Analysis
Freddy Galvis wasn't cutting it in the leadoff spot for manager Pete Mackanin, so he turned to the only other legitimate leadoff option on the 25-man roster, in Hernandez. Odubel Herrera might be a better fit to hit first, but the Phillies lineup is so awful that they need Herrera hitting second or third. Hernandez entered play with a .435 OBP, and he has good speed, so he could hold onto the leadoff spot for a while, given what else is on the roster.
