Atlanta recalled Elder from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander will fill the rotation spot vacated by AJ Smith-Shawver, who will miss the rest of the season due to a torn UCL in his right elbow. Elder has been serviceable in his eight starts for Atlanta this season with a 4.50 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 33:13 K:BB across 44 innings, and he should get an extended look in the rotation.

Atlanta will recall Elder from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
With AJ Smith-Shawver out for the season due to a torn UCL in his right elbow, Elder is scheduled to come up to fill the opening in Atlanta's rotation and presumably remain with the big club going forward. The 26-year-old has made eight starts in the majors this season and owns a 4.50 ERA and 1.25 WHIP alongside a 33:13 K:BB across 44 innings.

Atlanta optioned Elder to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Elder has put up a 3.10 ERA over his last five starts, including tossing six innings of one-run ball his last time out against the Nationals. However, Spencer Strider (hamstring) is due back next week and Atlanta will not go to a six-man rotation, so Elder having minor-league options left worked against him here. He'll likely be the next starter called upon when the big club needs a rotation reinforcement.

Elder didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts across 6.0 innings during the 5-4 loss to Washington.
EDGE Analysis
Elder didn't quite pack the strikeout punch he had in his last two starts when he logged eight and six Ks, respectively. He made up for it by not allowing a single extra-base hit and retiring 15 of the final 18 batters he faced after allowing a run in the opening frame. Atlanta led 4-1 when Elder exited after six innings, but Washington rallied to score X runs in the closing three innings to steal the victory. Through 44.0 innings, Elder has a 4.50 ERA and a 33:13 K:BB. Elder is scheduled to face the Nationals again Wednesday.

Elder (2-2) took the loss against the Pirates on Friday, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out eight across six innings. He did not issue a walk.
EDGE Analysis
Elder faced the minimum number of batters in four of the first five innings, though he was tagged for a solo home run by Alexander Canario in the third. Elder yielded two more runs in the sixth frame, but he was able to complete the inning to earn his third quality start in his last four outings. He'll take a 4.97 ERA and 1.29 WHIP into his next start, tentatively slated for next week at home against the Nationals.

Elder (2-1) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six over five-plus innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Elder gave up an RBI double to Max Muncy in the fourth inning, and Muncy added a second RBI with a sixth-inning groundout against Pierce Johnson after Elder put two runners on base. Other than that, it was a third straight positive performance for Elder, who is doing a fair job of holding onto a place in Atlanta's rotation. His six strikeouts Sunday were a season high, and he's allowed just six runs over his last 17 innings across three starts, a span that includes both of his wins this season. The right-hander is projected to make his next start at Pittsburgh.

Elder (1-1) earned the win over Colorado on Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Elder got off to a rocky start when he fell behind on a three-run homer by Hunter Goodman in the first inning, but the righty hurler bounced back and didn't allow another run for the remainder of what ended up being a quality start. He wasn't overpowering in the outing, notching just seven whiffs and four punchouts, but Elder's performance was good enough to net him his first victory of 2025. His ERA still stands at a poor 5.33, but Elder has been better of late, giving up a combined four runs across 12 frames over his post two starts.

Elder came away with a no-decision in Wednesday win over the Cardinals, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
While the right-hander wasn't dominant -- Elder managed just five swinging strikes among his 99 pitches (63 total strikes) -- he did deliver his first quality start of the season. He was actually on the hook for the loss however, until Atlanta's offense woke up in the seventh inning. Elder appears to have little competition for the fifth starter role at the moment, as AJ Smith-Shawver lasted only 3.2 innings in his most recent start at Triple-A. Elder will take a 5.57 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 12:8 K:BB through 21 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week at Coors Field.

Elder took a no-decision versus the Twins on Friday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Elder didn't have much going for him throughout this start, which saw Minnesota take a four-run lead in the fourth inning. Atlanta rallied back, and its five-run eighth inning was enough to get Elder off the hook. The right-hander has allowed at least three runs in all three of his starts this season, pitching to a 7.20 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB over 15 innings. It's not the start to the year he needed after struggling with a 6.52 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 2024. He remains in the rotation for now and is tentatively lined up for a home start versus the Cardinals next week, but Atlanta may have to explore other options if Elder can't turn things around soon.

Elder (0-1) took the loss against the Rays on Friday. He allowed five runs on nine hits while striking out four across six innings.
EDGE Analysis
Elder started out nicely by retiring six of the first batters faced, but he proceeded to give up five runs over the next four frames, including a two-run home run to Danny Jansen in the fourth inning and a solo shot to Christopher Morel in the sixth. Elder was inserted into Atlanta's rotation after Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list March 31. Elder has struggled in his two starts in the majors and has posted a 7.20 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 10 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander could lose his spot in Atlanta's rotation and be sent back to Triple-A Gwinnet if Spencer Strider (elbow) returns from IL next week.
