Tallet, who was pitching for the Lancaster Barnstormers of the independent Atlantic League, will pursue a career in coaching. Padres acquired LHP Brian Tallet from the Pirates. It's not clear what the Padres gave up in the deal, but we imagine it's probably just cash considerations. Tallet will give the Pads some left-handed relief depth at Triple-A Tucson.

Pirates signed LHP Brian Tallet to a minor league contract. We assume the veteran will probably receive an invitation to spring training. Tallet suffered through an injury-plagued 2011 campaign and posted an ugly 9.45 ERA and 2.18 WHIP over 19 appearances for the Cardinals and Blue Jays. He has an outside shot at cracking the Opening Day roster.

Blue Jays released LHP Brian Tallet. Tallet, who was essentially a throw-in as part of the Colby Rasmus deal, was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays last week. The 33-year-old southpaw has an ugly 9.45 ERA and 10/7 K/BB ratio over 13 1/3 innings in the majors this season. He'll likely get a spring training invite somewhere.

Brian Tallet (intercostal strain) tossed another scoreless inning Thursday at Single-A Dunedin. Tallet allowed a hit but struck out the side in the impressive rehab outing. He's been playing in minor league games for a week now and should be cleared to return to the majors when rosters expand in September.
