Serven (oblique) has gone 6-for-19 with a double, a stolen base, six RBI and two runs in four games since being activated from Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list April 15
EDGE Analysis
Serven suffered a left oblique strain in early March that ended any hopes he had of making the Tigers' Opening Day roster as a backup catcher and also resulted in him beginning the season on the shelf at Triple-A. He was cleared to debut for Toledo after beginning a rehab assignment at Single-A Lakeland on April 4 and appearing in seven games.

Serven hasn't appeared in any Grapefruit League games since March 2 due to a left oblique strain, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Serven has been taking part in daily rehab activities since suffering the injury, but it's unclear if he'll be able to return to the lineup before the end of spring training. The oblique injury likely eliminates any chance Serven had of making the Tigers' Opening Day roster as a backup catcher.

The Tigers signed Serven to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of Just Baseball reports.
EDGE Analysis
Serven, 29, slashed .159/.243/.222 in 28 games with the Blue Jays this past season. It's possible he could win the backup catcher job in Detroit behind Jake Rogers if the Tigers want to give Dillon Dingler a little more seasoning in the minors.

Serven went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
The backstop scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the third inning as he guided Bowden Francis and the bullpen to a 2-0 victory. Serven is emerging as Francis' personal catcher, working with him in each of the right-hander's last three starts, and it's hard to argue with the results -- Francis has a 0.41 ERA, 0.36 WHIP and 24:3 K:BB over 22 innings in those outings. Serven's been adding a little offense as well, batting .280 (7-for-25) in August with three doubles, three RBI and three runs over 10 appearances.

Serven went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in Friday's 8-5 win over the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Batting ninth and getting another start behind the plate while Alejandro Kirk nurses a bruised elbow, Serven came through with a two-run single in the third inning. The hits and RBI were the 29-year-old's first since he was added back to the big-league roster July 28 following the Danny Jansen trade, but with Kirk not expected to miss much more time, Serven will likely return to the bench before the weekend is over.

With Danny Jansen traded to the Red Sox on Saturday, Serven will serve as the backup catcher behind Alejandro Kirk. Serven has played in eight major-league games this season and has gone 1-for-11 with one walk, one run scored and four strikeouts. He is available for Sunday's series finale against the Rangers.
