Matusz was ejected in the top of the 12th inning Saturday after umpires found a foreign substance on his arm, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com. Matusz faced two batters and gotten both of them out, one with a strikeout. He walked off the mound without showing visible anger. He will likely face a suspension from this incident, similar to Milwaukee Brewers' pitcher Will Smith who was caught in a similar incident earlier this week.

Matusz is available Wednesday, but the Orioles revealed he was not available Monday or Tuesday after taking a comebacker off his thumb in Sunday's game, MASN Sports reports. When healthy, Matusz is the top left-hander out of the bullpen outside of Zach Britton, the ninth inning option. Matusz is sitting at a 2.92 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, but he is has just a 7::8 K/BB ratio.

Matusz pitched in long relief Tuesday, allowing two runs on seven hits with one walk and one strikeout in three innings. The Orioles took advantage of Matusz, who was stretched out this spring, as the left-hander threw 59 pitches while mopping up for Bud Norris. There is a slight possibility the Orioles could install Matusz in the rotation, but that would leave closer Zach Britton as the only left-hander in the bullpen.

Matusz appears to have gotten some attention as a trade target this spring, MASN Sports reports. Matusz has drawn attention from the Mets. The Orioles have used him as a left-handed reliever for several years, but he is not a lockdown reliever with a career 4.44 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. Matusz saw a decline in his numbers from 2013 to 2014 (2.91 ERA to 4.00 ERA and 1.16 WHIP to 1.32 WHIP). The Orioles could trade Matusz and use Wesley Wright as the primary left-handed middle reliever.

Matusz could be stretched out to 60 pitches in his next spring training start, the Baltimore Sun reports. There has been no news that Matusz is in contention for a rotation spot. The Orioles might be looking at Matusz as a long reliever. This would be a bit of a surprise considering he had been expected to be the team's top situational lefty. Matusz's role might depend on other pitchers in camp. If Ubaldo Jimenez is squeezed out of the rotation, he would likely be the long reliever. If Miguel Gonzalez or Kevin Gausman do not make the rotation, either would likely be sent to the minors. The perplexing thing is that if Matusz is the long reliever, they might go with a less proven option as a situational lefthander in T.J. McFarland or Wesley Wright and the Orioles will be in a roster pinch if that is the case.

Matusz (non-throwing shoulder) threw a scoreless inning and allowed one hit with one strikeout Thursday against the Blue Jays. Matusz had a cortisone shot Monday and made it back to the mound just three days later. The injury does not appear to be a concern, especially since it is Matusz's non-throwing shoulder. Matusz appears to be the top lefty out of the bullpen after Andrew Miller departed in the offseason.

Matusz had a cortisone shot in his non-throwing shoulder Monday, MASN Sports reports. Matusz strained the shoulder about six weeks ago while bench pressing. He has not struggled with any significant injury in his career and it is a good thing the injury is on the non-throwing shoulder. Matusz threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is scheduled to pitch in a split-squad game Thursday.

The Orioles avoided arbitration with Matusz, agreeing Friday to a $3.2 million salary for the 2015 season, MASN Sports reports. Matusz now has one year of arbitration remaining. Matusz had an up-and-down season in 2014, but he matched his 2013 numbers almost perfectly, with a 3.48 ERA in 63 games. The Orioles lost confidence with him and traded for Andrew Miller down the stretch. Matusz has been involved in trade rumors as the Orioles have a number of left-handed relievers stockpiled heading into spring training.

Matusz was added to Baltimore's ALCS roster, MASN Sports reports. It was a bit of a surprise that Matusz was left off the ALDS roster after spending the entire season with the Orioles. Matusz did not have a great regular season, but he was not bad either, holding a 3.48 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. He lagged just a bit behind his 2013 numbers and that may have been a contributing reason that the Orioles traded for Andrew Miller, who dominated in relief in the ALDS. Matusz will probably only be used as a left-handed specialist.

Matusz retired the only batter he faced in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees. Matusz has not been used much in September, as Monday marked just his sixth appearance. He faced only one hitter in two of those appearances. It appears Matusz's usage has become a bit more sparse since the Andrew Miller trade, though he is on pace for his same innings total as 2013 thanks to more use earlier in the season. The Orioles may also be resting Matusz for the playoffs.
