Matusz will be stretched out again this spring, but it appears the Orioles are more definite on his role in the bullpen this spring, MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
It seems almost every year the Orioles stretch Matusz out as though he were going to be a starter only to return him to the bullpen as camp breaks. This year, management does not appear ready to entertain him as a starter. Matusz likely will settle into a left-handed specialist role again, but the Orioles want him to be ready to pitch multiple innings if necessary.

Matusz and the Orioles agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million contract Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Orioles came out on top of this deal by a bit, as Matusz asked for $4.4 million and the Orioles countered with $3.5 million. This deal officially brings the left-hander back as a large part of the Baltimore bullpen after Matusz posted a 2.94 ERA with 10.3 K/9 in 2015.

Matusz had successful surgery on his right shoulder, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Considering the surgery was performed on his non-throwing shoulder, he's likely to be fully healed in a month or two --- well before spring training starts up in 2016. He should be counted on to pitch in more late-inning situations next year provided his shoulder is fully up to speed.

Matusz will undergo right shoulder surgery Monday, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
As a result of the injury, Matusz season will likely come to a close. He's posted a 2.98 ERA and 1.18 WHIP while collecting 56 strikeouts over 48.1 innings in 56 appearances this season, and should continue to serve in late-inning relief again in 2016.

Matusz was charged with a blown save in Tuesday's 6-5, extra-inning victory over the Red Sox after surrendering a solo homer in 0.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Matusz promptly served up a 418-foot dinger to the first batter he faced, Travis Shaw. The eighth-inning blast knotted the score at 5-5 and was the third earned run given up by Matusz in his last three trips to the mound. Tonight's debacle also represented the veteran reliever's second consecutive blown save in as many opportunities. Despite the recent struggles, Matusz has provided quality work overall out of the bullpen, and his current 2.87 ERA and 1.15 WHIP are significant improvements over his career numbers in those categories.

Matusz retired the only two batters he faced on five pitches to preserve Baltimore's eighth inning lead and earn a hold in Monday's win over the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Matusz stranded two runners from the normally steady-handed Darren O'Day. With Matusz now serving normally as a left-handed specialist, it is surprising that this is just Matusz's second hold on the season. He rebounded from being charged two runs for the only two batters he faced Saturday against the Royals.

Matusz will come off the suspended list for Sunday's game, MASN Sports reports.
Matusz served an eight-game suspension for a foreign substance on his arm. He returns to Baltimore's bullpen, where he will be the top left-hander available aside from Zach Britton. Matusz has walked 11 batters in 18.1 innings this season, which is a number he will look to improve.

Matusz lost his appeal and will be forced to serve his eight-game suspension, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Back on May 23, Matusz was ejected for having a foreign substance on his arm in a late-game appearance against Miami. With the appeal committee upholding the length of the original suspension, Matusz figures to begin serving the suspension immediately with an eye toward returning sometime next weekend.

The appeal hearing on Matusz's eight-game suspension will take place Jun. 3, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
The length of his suspension will be decided on that date and it will go into effect immediately. Until then he will continue to pitch out of the Orioles' bullpen.

Matusz - who was ejected from Saturday's appearance for a foreign substance found on his arm - will appeal an eight-game suspension imposed by the league Monday.
Matusz was ejected in the 12th inning after facing two batters, and it could cost him the same amount of games as Brewers pitcher Will Smith, who received the same suspension from the league. He will remain available to pitch until his appeal is heard, at which point the league will determine whether or not to uphold it.
