Brian Matusz has been removed from the starting rotation.
Matusz gave up five runs over just 1 1/3 innings Monday against the Yankees and now has a 9.84 ERA over 10 starts in the majors this season. The Orioles haven't ruled out giving him another start before the end of the season, but the young left-hander will try to work through his struggles out of the bullpen for now.

Brian Matusz will start Monday against the Yankees.
Matusz was scheduled to start on Saturday but was pushed back in the rotation due to his struggles in his three starts since coming off the disabled list on August 17. Tommy Hunter is going to start Tuesday's game against the Yanks in Baltimore.

Brian Matusz threw a bullpen session Friday.
Matusz was originally scheduled to start Saturday, but he is being skipped in the starting rotation. Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday that it's possible he could pitch against the Yankees next week. The young left-hander has allowed six earned runs in each of his three starts since returning from the disabled list, so he should be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Brian Matusz will be skipped in the O's rotation.
Matusz has allowed six earned runs in each of his three starts since returning from the minor leagues in mid-August. It may be time for the young left-hander to begin focusing on getting back on track for 2012.

The Orioles have cancelled Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees due to Hurricane Irene.
The two teams will play a split-doubleheader on Sunday and then a night game on Monday. They'll also meet again on September 8 to finish out the series. Hurricane Irene continues to wreak havoc on the MLB schedule.

Brian Matusz was ripped for six runs -- five earned -- over four innings in Sunday's loss to the Angels.
Matusz's nightmare season continues. He has given up at least five earned runs in his last four starts and is sporting a 8.92 ERA on the season. There are no signs that the former No. 4 overall pick is going to get on track anytime soon.

Brian Matusz will start Sunday against the Angels in place of the injured Jeremy Guthrie (shoulder).
It will be his normal day to pitch, so no big deal. Matusz, though, was blasted for six runs in his return to the Orioles rotation on Tuesday and simply cannot be trusted in fantasy leagues right now.

In his return to the rotation, Brian Matusz was smoked for six runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the A's.
The Orioles recalled Matusz from Triple-A Norfolk earlier in the day, hoping he'd learned something from his month-and-a-half demotion. Not so, apparently, as he was eaten alive against a weak offense in a pitcher's heaven. Amusingly, Matusz' ERA actually dropped in this game, as he was sent packing after posting an ugly 8.77 ERA over six starts earlier this year. His ERA now stands at 8.63 as we wait to see if Baltimore will give him another shot.

Orioles recalled LHP Brian Matusz from Triple-A Norfolk.
As expected, Matusz will return from the minors to start Tuesday night against the Athletics. The young left-hander was demoted at the end of June after posting an ugly 8.77 ERA over six starts, but has given up just four runs over last 23 innings at the Triple-A level. The Orioles are hoping he can finish the season strong.

Updating an earlier item, Brian Matusz is now expected to take the recently demoted Chris Tillman's place in the Orioles rotation.
It's doubtful Matusz has accomplished everything he needs to in the minors, but there's no doubt the results have been better of late, while his fastball has reportedly been regaining some of its lost miles per hour. If he's recalled on Tuesday as expected, Matusz will get the A's in Oakland. He'll be worth a long look in all formats despite his struggles earlier this season.
