Johnson will be recalled to start Saturday's game against the Mariners, Evan Drellich of CSNNE reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hector Velazquez's demotion to Triple-A Pawtucket left a vacancy in the Red Sox rotation for Saturday, so the club will call on one of its top pitching prospects to face the Mariners. Johnson, a lefty, was touched up for four earned runs over 5.0 innings in his lone start for the Red Sox this season. He'll be facing a Seattle team that ranks third-to-last in baseball in terms of wOBA against southpaws.

Manager John Farrell said that Johnson is a "strong candidate" to enter the rotation as the fifth starter, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
A vacancy in the rotation was created when Hector Velazquez was optioned to Triple-A following his rough spot start, and it seems like Johnson has moved up in the pecking order. Even if he does pick up a start or two in the big leagues, David Price's (elbow) impending activation would likely send Johnson back to the minor leagues. If he does in fact get a callup, Johnson would likely be in line to start Saturday against the Mariners.

Johnson (1-0) allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out six for Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
It was another strong effort for Johnson who has has already made one start for Boston this season. The Red Sox need another starter Thursday to replace Steven Wright (knee) but it wasn't in the cards for Johnson. Instead, the Red Sox are calling on Kyle Kendrick to start Thursday and possibly more if Wright needs more time.

Johnson was sent back to Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson managed to pick up a W in his spot start Tuesday, but with Eduardo Rodriguez returning to the team Wednesday, Johnson will head back to the minors. The 26-year-old lefty's solid season debut could put him in a good place to pick up more spot starts down the line, although he'll continue developing against advanced hitters until the opportunity arises.

Johnson (1-0) gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six in Tuesday's victory over Toronto.
EDGE Analysis
Well, the strikeouts were nice, but he gave up a pair of homers and needed 97 pitches to record 15 outs, so this wasn't the most impressive of spot starts. Johnson will almost certainly head back to Triple-A soon, as he only came up to make this start because Eduardo Rodriguez is on paternity leave.

Johnson has been called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to start for Boston on Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Bill Ballou of the Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson is the fill-in starter for Eduardo Rodriguez who is away from the team on paternity leave. This is expected to be a one-start callup for Johnson, but it's an important start in terms of how the organization views its starting depth. Johnson, Henry Owens, Kyle Kendrick and Roenis Elias are all in the mix for starts this season should the need arise.

Johnson will be called up Tuesday to start against the Blue Jays, Jen McCaffrey of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Boston's scheduled starter, Eduardo Rodriguez, has been placed on paternity leave, so Johnson gets the fill-in start Tuesday. The left-handed Johnson was brilliant in his previous start for Triple-A Pawtucket and has a 1.69 ERA with 15 strikeouts and four walks over 10.2 innings in 2017.

Johnson (head) allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out eight over 6.2 innings with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
A line drive struck Johnson in the head during his first start of the season, but he avoided a concussion and was cleared to return to the mound five days later. Manager John Farrell said earlier this month that Johnson was the No. 3 depth starter behind Kyle Kendrick and Henry Owens, but a case can be made that Johnson has already leaped Kendrick (nine earned runs allowed in his first start) at least. Johnson will almost certainly get a major-league opportunity at some point this season, assuming he stays healthy.

Johnson (head) said he's hopeful to make his next scheduled start for Triple-A Pawtucket, Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox haven't provided any indication that Johnson experienced any concussion-like symptoms stemming from the line drive he took to the head in Saturday's start, so somewhat miraculously, it looks like he won't be forced to miss time as a result of the incident. Much of the lefty's prospect luster has warn off after he turned in a middling 4.09 ERA and 6.3 K/9 rate over 77 innings with Pawtucket in 2016, but he'll remain on the big club's short list for a promotion if a rotation spot opens up at any point this season.

Johnson was "responsive" after taking a line drive off his head during Saturday's game, Brendan McGair of the Pawtucket Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Triple-A Pawtucket manager Kevin Boles added that Johnson was able to answer questions and his removal from the game was for "precautionary reasons." It sounds like Johnson may have avoided more serious damage, but we'll wait on the results of medical tests to learn more about the left-hander's status going forward.
