Anderson will make a base salary of $5 million, with the chance to earn an additional $2 million in incentives, Buster Olney of ESPN reports. The veteran lefty won 13 games with a 3.89 ERA for Oakland last season. He tied his career high by making 31 starts, though he'd made just 33 over the previous three seasons combined, so there's still plenty of injury risk here. He'll also be pitching in a far tougher home park, so his 12.1 percent strikeout rate might stand out as a more notable negative than it was last season.

Anderson up zeros and the bullpen did as well, with rookie Jesus Luzardo ultimately closing out a 1-0 victory. The lefty ends the regular season having allowed more than three earned runs in just one of his final 10 starts. He brought his ERA under 4.00 for the season and it looks like Anderson may get a start in the ALDS if the A's are able to advance past next Wednesday's Wild Card Game.

Anderson did not factor into the decision against Kansas City on Tuesday, hurling five innings and giving up one run on five hits and no walks while striking out two.

Anderson made only 66 pitches, 40 of which were strikes, but was pulled after five frames for his third straight start. The strategy -- likely precipitated by Anderson's 5.13 ERA after the fifth inning this season -- has yielded mostly positive results, as Oakland has won each of the southpaw's last three starts while he has surrendered six earned runs over 15 innings. Anderson now holds a 4.00 ERA and 1.32 WHIP this season and is next scheduled to face the Angels in Los Angeles on Sept. 25.

Anderson struggled with the top of the Angels' order, allowing both Mike Trout and Justin Upton to have big performances against him. The damage began in the first inning when Upton doubled in two runs. Two innings later, Anderson allowed a two-run homer to Mike Trout, before again being tagged by Upton for an RBI single to end his outing. The effort marked the third time in Anderson's past eight starts that he's allowed four or more earned runs, though he turned in quality starts in each of his other five appearances. For the season, Anderson has maintained a respectable 4.19 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 161 innings. He's scheduled to make his next start Wednesday at Houston.

Anderson is slated to start Thursday's series finale against the Angels, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Chris Bassitt had initially been in line to start Thursday, but he'll instead have his turn pushed back to Saturday's game against Detroit after he left the team Wednesday following the birth of his daughter, Landry. Since the Athletics recently added another starter to their rotation in Sean Manaea, Anderson will be taking the hill on five days' rest and won't be facing any restrictions with his pitch count.

Anderson (11-9) allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and one strikeout across six innings while earning a victory against the Yankees on Friday.

It's hard to win a game while striking out one batter during six innings in today's baseball, but Anderson did just that in this victory and has done that most of the season. However, wins have been hard to come by for Anderson lately, as he is 2-4 with a 4.39 ERA during the second half. Overall, Anderson, who will start next at home against the Tigers on Friday, owns a 4.04 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 156 innings this season.
