Pena is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres, MLB.com's Jamie Ramsey reports. Pena and Tucker Barnhart have been alternating starts over the last week or so, but Pena is probably still the better bet for playing time, as he's surprisingly produced a .371 on-base percentage this season.

Pena is not in the lineup Sunday against the Nationals. Pena will take a seat for a regular day off, giving way to Tucker Barnhart behind the plate.

Pena is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Pena will likely receive a normal day of rest Wednesday after five straight starts behind the plate. He's hit a bit of a rough patch at the dish recently, going just 3-for-21 in his last six games. Perhaps the day off will help him recharge, as Tucker Barnhart will sit behind the plate and bat seventh for the Reds on Wednesday.

Pena isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Royals. Pena has swung the bat well this season, sticking .322/.398/.367 with four RBI and six runs in 28 games. He'll receive his second day off in four contests Wednesday, with Tucker Barnhart starting behind the plate and batting ninth.

Pena went 3-for-4 a double and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Braves. He's now hitting .355/.429/.411 on the season. Pena and Tucker Barnhart have been alternating starts behind the plate lately while Devin Mesoraco can't catch. This is the upper bound of what Pena can do, and he's unlikely to keep this up, but he's not what's wrong with the Reds offense.

Pena is out of the lineup Monday against the Braves. Pena will receive a day off following a 2-for-4 day at the plate Sunday. He's now collected a hit in four straight and seven of the last eight games, and sits at .333/.413/.377 on the season. Tucker Barnhart will catch for the Reds on Monday, batting eighth.

Pena is out of the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. This comes as no surprise as Pena started the first half of Saturday's doubleheader. Tucker Barnhart will slot in as the backstop for the nightcap.

Pena is not in the lineup Thursday against the Braves. Tucker Barnhart will be rewarded with another start after going 1-for-2 with his first home run of the season Wednesday. Pena has seen most of the time in place of Devin Mesoraco (hip) and has fared well, going 13-for-42 with three doubles, eight walks and six strikeouts. Mesoraco isn't expected to be able to catch for another 7-to-10 days.

Pena started Tuesday's game with Devin Mesoraco (hip) out, but failed to record a hit in three at bats. Pena has started three straight games now with Mesoraco out, but has yet to drive in a run or score one on his own. After the game, Reds manager Bryan Price said Mesoraco wasn't going to be placed on the DL, meaning he could return any day, which would send Pena back to the bench.

Pena (shoulder) is in the lineup again Monday against the Cubs, Jon Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Pena injured his shoulder making a headfirst slide into first base Sunday, but with Devin Mesoraco (hip) back in Cincinnati, he will start again Monday anyway. The Reds called up Kyle Skipworth as insurance behind the plate Monday, and they may need to turn to him if Pena's shoulder should give him any trouble.
