Ziegler is expected to remain the Diamondbacks' closer to begin the year despite the addition of Tyler Clippard on a two-year contract, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Ziegler does not have the swing-and-miss stuff of a prototypical closer, his ability to keep the ball on the ground and success in the closer role a year ago will likely keep him in the ninth inning to start the 2016 campaign. Clippard's signing bolsters the team's back-end depth for now and gives the Diamondbacks a quality fallback option should Ziegler's ERA return closer to his 2014 mark.

Ziegler will return to the Diamondbacks after the team picked up his $5.5 million club option for 2016, Zach Buchanan of the Arizona Republic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ziegler recorded a career-high 30 saves to go along with a sterling 1.85 ERA in 68 innings with the team this season, so this move was expected. The Diamondbacks could bring in a closer this season, thus bumping the 36-year-old back into his customary set-up role, but that decision will likely come later in the offseason.

Ziegler (personal) is expected to rejoin the Diamondbacks on Friday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ziegler left the team for the birth of his daughter, but he should be back and available for the final series of the season.

Ziegler is away from the team Tuesday following the birth of his daughter, the Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports.
EDGE Analysis
Those in daily leagues should be aware that Ziegler won't pitch in Tuesday's game, and could theoretically be away Wednesday as well. Nobody has been announced as the likely candidate to pitch in a save situation, but Daniel Hudson and David Hernandez seem like possible options.

Ziegler picked up his 29th save Sunday in a win over the Padres, pitching a clean ninth inning.
EDGE Analysis
This was Ziegler's fifth save in his last six outings, and the 27th consecutive save he has converted successfully, dating back to May 27. With just blown saves on the season, Ziegler has quietly been one of the games most effective closers since taking over the role early in the season. For fantasy purposes, however, the lack of strikeouts (just 34 in 66 innings) does limit his value compared to the elite relievers in the game.

Ziegler allowed a hit in a clean ninth inning to record his 28th save in a win over the Padres on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Ziegler allowed a leadoff single, but drew two grounds and a flyball to eventually end the game. It's been an amazing season for the closer, as he has a 1.94 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 64 appearances this year. For anyone who picked him up off waivers early in the year, you're surely reaping the rewards. The one thing Ziegler could improve on are the strikeouts, as he has just 34 in 65 innings.

Ziegler allowed a hit and struck out two batters en route to his 27th save in a 2-0 win over the Giants on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Ziegler has been one of the closer waiver wire adds of the season as he continues to get it done. Since allowing seven runs at the end of August in two bad outings, Ziegler has now gone five straight innings without allowing a run. The only statistic missing for Ziegler are the strikeouts, as he has just 34 in 63 innings this season. With that said, his 2.00 ERA and 0.95 WHIP are elite for any closer.

Ziegler earned his 25th save Wednesday, blanking the Giants over 1.2 innings en route to a 2-1 victory.
EDGE Analysis
Ziegler has posted dismal strikeout totals in his first full season as Arizona's closer, yet has managed to secure all but two saves. The veteran sidewinder has seemingly recovered from a lingering ankle injury, going 1.2 innings against San Francisco with relative ease. Ziegler's prospects as the Diamondbacks' closer are uncertain beyond this season, but he's provided fantasy owners with excellent value off the waiver wire.

Ziegler (ankle) threw a perfect ninth inning in Monday's 6-1 win over the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
The 35-year-old was right back to his old tricks after missing more than a week with an ankle issue, recording three groundball outs on nine pitches. He has a 73.4 percent groundball rate for the season. Now that he's been given the green light to pitch for Arizona, it seems likely Ziegler will return to the closer role for the final weeks of the season.

Ziegler was unavailable for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies after turning his ankle and hurting a finger on his pitching hand during his appearance Monday, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ziegler apparently twisted the ankle while attempting to field a comebacker, but all indications are that the Diamondbacks closer is feeling fine and should be available again by the end of the week. The 35-year-old has sputtered in his last two outings with seven runs allowed on 10 hits and a walk over 2.1 innings, but with a shiny 2.48 ERA and 1.01 WHIP over 58 frames this season, he's still been the team's top reliever. Don't expect him to surrender the closer's role to Daniel Hudson just yet.
