Hand secured Sunday's 3-0 shutout of Arizona by pitching a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Hand sandwiched a David Peralta pop out between Eduardo Escobar and Stephen Vogt strikeouts to record his fourth save of the season. It's noteworthy that manager Dave Martinez still turned to Hand in the ninth given his poor performance prior to Sunday's game and his job appears to be safe for now.

Hand (2-2) blew the save and took the loss Wednesday as the Nationals fell 5-2 to the Phillies in 10 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits over one inning while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Called up to protect a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning, Hand instead served up a solo shot to Odubel Herrera. Nats manager Dave Martinez elected to leave the lefty on the mound to begin the 10th with Bryce Harper due up for the Phillies, but after Harper singled, Hand got the hook and Kyle Finnegan allowed the inherited runner to score. While his 2.92 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings are solid, Hand has walked seven batters, blown his last two save chances and been tagged for runs in his last three appearances, putting his spot as Washington's closer in some jeopardy if he can't turn things around quickly.

Hand (2-1) allowed one run on a hit and two walks in a third of an inning to take the loss against the Yankees on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Hand entered Sunday's game in the ninth inning to preserve a 2-2 tie, but he walked Tyler Wade on four pitches before issuing a free pass to Aaron Judge. The southpaw managed to record an out, but he gave up a walkoff single and was charged with his first loss of the season. Hand didn't allow any earned runs in his first nine appearances of the season, but he's now been charged with a blown save and a loss in his last two outings.

Hand blew his first save of the season Saturday against the Yankees, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in one inning of work.
EDGE Analysis
Hand was tasked with shutting down the top of the Yankees' lineup with a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth. He failed to do so, allowing the game-tying run on a walk and a pair of singles. He remained in the game in the 10th inning but was pulled after allowing the leadoff batter Mike Ford to hit a go-ahead single. The blown save was Hand's first since 2019, as he was successful in all 16 of his opportunities last year in addition to his first three this season.

Hand (2-0) allowed an unearned run on one hit and two walks with one strikeout in two innings to earn the win Friday versus Miami.
EDGE Analysis
Hand allowed an RBI single to Garrett Cooper in the top of the 10th inning, but Kyle Schwarber bailed him out with a walkoff two-run home run in the bottom half of the inning. The run against Hand was the first he has allowed all season, but it won't show up on his still-perfect 0.00 ERA. The southpaw has added a 0.89 WHIP, 7:4 K:BB and three saves across nine innings as Washington's closer.

Hand walked one in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his third save of the season in a 1-0 win over the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw battled his control, throwing only seven of 15 pitches for strikes, but he was able to get the job done and preserve the combined shutout for the Nats. Hand has yet to allow a run through six appearances this season, posting a 5:2 K:BB through six innings and earning one win in addition to his three saves.

Hand allowed a one-out double in the ninth but was still able to come down with his second save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Hand had no easy ask preserving a one-run lead in the ninth with the Cardinals having their heart of the order due up. He surrendered a double to Yadier Molina but got the other hitters he faced to all fly out and successfully locked up the save. The 31-year-old southpaw has been stellar to kick off the season with five scoreless innings and a 4:1 K:BB.

Hand (1-0) earned the win Friday against Arizona after pitching a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
EDGE Analysis
Hand had to keep the game scoreless in the top of the ninth and that's exactly what he did, as he tossed 11 of his 17 pitches for strikes en route to posting his fourth straight scoreless outing of the campaign. The 31-year-old left-hander has gone 1-for-1 in save opportunities but has also been reliable every time Washington has needed him.

Hand recorded his first save of the season after tossing a scoreless inning Monday against the Cardinals. He gave up one hit and one walk while fanning two.
EDGE Analysis
Hand tossed 16 of his 26 pitches for strikes and allowed two baserunners, but he got the job done either way en route to his first save of the campaign -- he closed the door by striking out Andrew Knizner with runners in first and second. Hand has now tossed two scoreless outings to begin the season.

Hand struck out one in a perfect inning during Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw cleared the COVID-19 protocols Friday but the Nats didn't have a late lead for him to protect all weekend, so Hand instead worked the eighth inning in a non-save situation Sunday. The team's offense should get back to full strength this week, so Hand should begin to receive save opportunities soon enough after racking up 103 saves over the last four seasons for San Diego and Cleveland.
