Hand was called upon to to keep the game tied at one in the ninth inning, and he did so without allowing a baserunner. However, he ran into trouble in his second inning of work, walking a batter with one out before allowing a double and subsequent sacrifice fly to take the loss. Though his trouble came with the runner starting on second base in extra innings, Hand has now allowed three earned runs across his last 7.1 innings while also being tagged with a loss and a blown save in that span. Even so, he has a 2.63 ERA with a 40:16 K:BB across 41 innings on the season.

Hand closed the door on a potential comeback attempt from the Marlins with a strong outing, as he needed just 14 pitches (nine strikes) to get the job done in the top of the ninth. Hand had some issues with command Sunday and only threw 16 of his 31 pitches for strikes. He was charged with the blown save after giving up the one-run lead in the top of the ninth, but he picked up his fifth win of the year after the Nationals came back in the bottom half of the frame. EDGE Analysis
Hand needed just 13 pitches to get through the heart of the Padres' order, and he struck out Wil Myers to end the game. The 31-year-old has now converted 16 straight save chances, and he's posted an excellent 2.43 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 36:12 K:BB over 37 innings this season.
