The lackluster spring numbers don't help his case to win a job on the 26-man roster, but the most important number for McKinney was likely always one -- as in, his one remaining minor-league option, something neither Derek Fisher nor Anthony Alford possesses. Even if the Jays elect to part ways with one of those outfielders, that wouldn't guarantee McKinney a roster spot once the regular season begins, as the club could elect to keep Rowdy Tellez in the majors instead as insurance for Travis Shaw at first base.

He hit a two-run shot to right field in the seventh and then another solo knock to center field in the ninth. McKinney was hitless over his last three games and in 11 over his last 14 so it was nice to see the lefty be productive at the plate. The 25-year-old now owns a .214/.270/.420 slash line with 11 home runs and 27 RBI over 261 plate appearances. The team has six more games remaining so McKinney should figure to start in at least half of those contests before the season wraps up.

McKinney went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.

He went back-to-back with Teoscar Hernandez in the sixth inning to give the Jays plenty of insurance in a shutout win. McKinney is slashing only .218/.275/.431 on the season with nine homers and 20 RBI in 57 games, and with Rowdy Tellez now back in Toronto, his opportunities for extra playing time at first base or DH will likely dwindle.

The Blue Jays will recall McKinney from Triple-A Buffalo ahead of Monday's series opener with the Rangers, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

He'll fill the active roster spot of Freddy Galvis, who was claimed off waivers Monday by the Reds. Since McKinney had already joined the Blue Jays on Sunday as a member of the taxi squad, he won't have to hop a flight to Toronto on short notice and should be available against Texas. McKinney, who has posted a .686 OPS across 202 plate appearances in the big leagues this season, will likely act as the Jays' fourth outfielder until Lourdes Gurriel (quadriceps) is reinstated from the injured list.

McKinney could see his playing time increase significantly in an unsettled Toronto outfield if he can stay locked in at the plate, but his .224/.279/.412 slash line on the year with six home runs and 15 RBI in 51 games doesn't offer much optimism.

McKinney went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a second run scored in Monday's 10-8 loss to the Red Sox.

Called up from Triple-A Buffalo earlier in the day, McKinney got the start in right field and hit eighth, and he responded with his fifth big-league homer of the year. The 24-year-old's .222/.277/.392 slash line through 47 games with Toronto still leaves him an afterthought in most fantasy formats, but he could get another chance to hold down a starting spot after posting a solid .886 OPS at Triple-A.
