The Tigers and Brieske (forearm) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.1575 million contract Friday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
It was a forgettable 2025 season for Brieske, as he held a 6.55 ERA over 22 appearances with the big club and ended the year with a right forearm strain. It's not clear what his current health status is, but if his pitching arm is sound, Brieske will attempt to pitch his way back into the Tigers' Opening Day bullpen.

The Tigers recalled Brieske (elbow) from Triple-A Toledo on Friday and placed him on the 60-day injured list.
EDGE Analysis
Brieske has already been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 campaign due to an elbow injury, so the Tigers will perform a bit of roster manipulation that will allow the team to give the 27-year-old's 40-man spot to the newly activated Jose Urquidy. Sawyer Gipson-Long (neck) was also placed on the 15-day IL as part of Friday's roster moves.

Brieske will be shut down for the rest of the 2025 season due to a right elbow injury, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Brieske has been on Triple-A Toledo's 7-day injured list since July 14. The severity of his elbow injury is enough for him to miss the rest of the season, though he'll be shut down for at least four-to-six weeks and doesn't appear to be in immediate danger of missing the start of spring training, per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. Brieske appeared in 22 major-league games in 2025 and finished with a 6.55 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 16:12 K:BB across 22 innings.

Triple-A Toledo placed Brieske on its 7-day injured list Thursday due to an unspecified injury.
EDGE Analysis
Brieske's move to the IL came just a couple days after he retired just one batter while allowing five earned runs on two hits and three walks in a relief appearance for Toledo. Before he was optioned to Triple-A on June 12, Brieske logged a 6.55 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 22 innings out of the Tigers bullpen.

The Tigers optioned Brieske to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Brieske was knocked around for five runs while recording just one out in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles, pushing his ERA on the season to 6.55. He'll try to get back on track at Toledo.

Brieske allowed five runs on three hits and two walks while retiring just one batter in Wednesday's 10-1 loss to the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Brieske didn't factor into the decision Wednesday but he did allow the game to get out of reach due to his poor performance. The righty saw his ERA climb from 4.57 to 6.55, which is a far way from the 3.59 ERA he posted during the 2024 regular season. Brieske's FIP has also climbed from 3.50 to 5.37, so the underlying statistics indicate that he's taken a step backward in 2025 as well. He's firmly behind Will Vest and Tommy Kahnle in Detroit's bullpen pecking order at this point, and he may see more low-leverage work until he can get back on track.

Brieske did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing no hits and one walk over 1.1 scoreless innings against the White Sox. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander got the bullpen game off to a solid start, handing things over in the second inning to Brant Hurter, who ultimately took the loss. Brieske has been highly effective recently, recording a 1.17 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 7.2 innings across his last seven outings. He's expected to resume his usual role in the bullpen moving forward.

Brieske will start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Brieske regularly served as an opener for Detroit last season and will receive his first start of 2025 on Tuesday. The right-hander has a 4.95 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 14:8 K:BB across 20 innings this season and isn't likely to pitcher longer than an inning or two versus Chicago.

Brieske (1-2) allowed one run on two hits across an inning of relief to take the loss Saturday against the Royals,
EDGE Analysis
Detroit starter Tarik Skubal logged seven scoreless innings but the Tigers were blanked on the day, which left Brieske with the loss when he allowed a run in the eighth. After compiling a 3.59 ERA and 69 strikeouts across 67.2 regular-season innings last year, the righty has been less effective in 2025 when healthy with a 4.95 ERA and 14 strikeouts across 20 innings. Brieske's 95.8 mph average fastball velocity is the same as 2024 however, so his stuff isn't noticeably different despite the dip in strikeout rate. Expect the 27-year-old to continue getting opportunities to rediscover his prior form.

Brieske worked around two hits to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Friday's 5-4 win over Toronto. He did not record a walk or strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
Tommy Kahnle was dispatched in the eighth inning, and rather than bring Will Vest to close things out the Tigers opted to call in Brieske for the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. Brieske got the first two batters out, and after issuing consecutive singles he closed things out by getting Ernie Clement to ground out. It was Brieske's first save of the season, but he still has a 6.59 ERA and 1.54 WHIP over 13.2 innings.
