Riley ran the bases Sunday but still felt some abdominal discomfort, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He will run again Tuesday, but a timeline for Riley's return to the Atlanta roster remains unclear. Riley has been sidelined for most of this month with a strained lower abdominal muscle. Nacho Alvarez will continue filling in at third base for Atlanta until Riley is ready to return from the injured list.

Riley (abdomen) still felt discomfort while throwing Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Riley is eligible to come off the 10-day IL on Friday, but the expectation is that he's going to need more time to recover from his abdominal strain. Nacho Alvarez has been handling the bulk of the third-base duties for Atlanta while Riley has been sidelined.

Riley (abdomen) likely won't need a rehab assignment before rejoining Atlanta's lineup, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Brian Snitker wouldn't offer a guess as to when the third baseman might be activated from the IL, but Riley's not expected to be too far behind Ronald Acuna (calf), who should rejoin the lineup before the end of the week. Riley has been sidelined since Aug. 2 after aggravating an abdominal strain that had previously cost him eight games sandwiched around the All-Star break. It's been a disappointing season overall for the 28-year-old, whose .737 OPS would be his lowest mark since he became a full-time player in 2021.

Atlanta placed Riley on the 10-day injured list Monday with a strained lower abdominal muscle.
EDGE Analysis
Riley spent a couple weeks on the injured list in July with an abdominal strain and is now back on the IL after aggravating the injury Sunday. He will be eligible for activation Aug. 14, but Atlanta will likely be more cautious with his recovery this time around. Nacho Alvarez was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to step in as the everyday third baseman.

Manager Brian Snitker said after Sunday's 4-2 win over the Reds in the MLB Speedway Classic in Bristol, Tenn. that Riley (abdomen) will be evaluated in the next day or two before Atlanta decides whether he requires a stint on the injured list, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After striking out in his lone plate appearance in the game that first started Saturday before it was resumed in the bottom of the first inning Sunday, Riley played two innings in the field before he was lifted for pinch hitter Luke Williams the next time his turn in the batting order came up in the top of the third. Atlanta later relayed that Riley was pulled from the game due to lower abdominal pain, an injury he appeared to suffer when he made a diving tag on Elly De La Cruz to prevent a run in the bottom of the first. Given that Riley was previously on the IL from July 12 through July 25 due to a lower abdominal strain, Riley could be dealing with a related setback that will result in another multi-week shutdown. If Atlanta decides to deactivate Riley, Nacho Alvarez would likely be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to take over as the team's everyday third baseman.

Riley was removed from Sunday's game against the Reds due to lower abdominal pain.
EDGE Analysis
Sunday was slated to be an off day for Cincinnati and Atlanta, but the two clubs instead resumed Saturday's MLB Speedway Classic after the game was suspended in the first inning due to rain. Riley struck out swinging Saturday before the game was halted, and he was replaced by Luke Williams before coming up to the plate Sunday. The severity of the injury remains unclear, and Riley should be considered day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener versus Milwaukee. Given that Riley was reinstated July 25 following a stint on the injured list due to a lower abdominal strain, it's worrisome that he's seemingly dealing with a recurrence of the injury just over a week later.

Riley went 2-for-6 with a homer, a double, and four RBI in Monday's 10-7 victory at Kansas City.
EDGE Analysis
The Atlanta third baseman clubbed a 422-foot solo shot off Royals reliever Sam Long to tally his first long ball since returning from an abdomen injury July 25. Riley also cleared the bases with his 20th two-bagger of the season in the eighth to notch his fourth game with four or more RBI this season. Through 427 total plate appearances, the two-time All-Star is slashing .268/.319/.437 with 15 homers, 52 RBI and 52 runs scored in 97 games.

Atlanta reinstated Riley (abdomen) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The third baseman was still feeling some discomfort in his lower abdomen earlier this week, but he's ready to rejoin the big-league roster Friday after spending two weeks on the injured list. Riley had a hot start to July prior to the injury, going 13-for-41 (.317 average) with five doubles, two homers, six RBI and five runs in 10 games.

Riley indicated Tuesday that he still felt some discomfort in his lower abdomen, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Atlanta is targeting Friday for the third baseman to return from the injured list.
EDGE Analysis
"Not sore, but I think there's still a shadow of something in there, from talking to him," manager Brian Snitker said Tuesday. "And we started thinking about it -- using the next two days with the off day is probably the smart thing." Atlanta's place in the standings doesn't give the team much incentive to rush Riley back into the lineup, but the schedule also worked against his earlier return, as a Tuesday night activation would have been followed by a quick turnaround before a Wednesday afternoon contest. Atlanta begins a nine-game road trip Friday against the Rangers, but Snitker wouldn't commit to Riley suiting up for that contest. "We'll see how he feels when he wakes up Friday," the manager said.

Riley (abdomen) will not be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and could have his return pushed back to Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The expectation had been that Riley would return from the IL on Tuesday when first eligible, but Atlanta is all but out of playoff contention and has decided it would be wise to give the third baseman a little more time to recover from his right abdominal strain. Nacho Alvarez will continue to fill in at the hot corner until Riley is activated.
