Leon cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo, Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com reports.

Leon was DFA'd by the Jays on Wednesday, and he'll wind up in Buffalo after passing through waivers unclaimed. In two appearances for Toronto, Leon allowed two earned runs on three hits.

Leon has given up earned runs in each of his two appearances this season and hasn't pitched since April 9. Leon was designated for assignment to make room for Pat Venditte, the switch-pitcher.

Leon was charged with the loss after serving up an eighth inning three-run homer to Steven Souza Jr. giving the Rays a 5-3 win.

EDGE Analysis

The bullpen is supposed to be one of the Blue Jays' biggest strengths this season, but it was a letdown in the final two games of the Opening Series against the Rays. For the second consecutive game, Toronto's relievers coughed up a lead in the eighth inning. The eighth inning typically belongs to right-hander Drew Storen, but he was noticeably absent during the series finale. Storen wasn't available after he either pitched or warmed up in Toronto's first three games of the season. Brett Cecil and Jesse Chavez also were unavailable for similar reasons.

Leon will open the season in the Blue Jays' bullpen, the Toronto Star reports.

EDGE Analysis

Leon earned a spot on the roster by giving up just who hits in seven scoreless innings this spring. While he will break camp with the Blue Jays, his roster spot will be in jeopardy when Marco Estrada (back) is ready to join the rotation.

Leon was traded to the Blue Jays on Tuesday for cash considerations.

EDGE Analysis

After designating Leon for assignment shortly before the New Year, the Athletics found a trade partner for the 27-year-old right-hander and will receive cash in return. Leon worked a 4.39 ERA out of the Oakland bullpen last season and will likely compete for a spot in Toronto's crowded but unsettled bullpen this spring.

In order to open a spot on the 40-man roster for free-agent signee Henderson Alvarez (shoulder), Leon was the fall guy. After splitting the 2015 season between the Athletics and Triple-A Nashville, though, he should open spring training with the big club with the intention of landing a role out of the bullpen.

The right-hander rode shuttle between Nashville and Oakland all season, coming up on five different occasions prior to Tuesday's recall, but he'll stick with the big club this time around with every team now having 40 active roster spots. Leon has struggled in a small sample with Oakland but turned in strong numbers with Nashville this season (2.95 ERA, 1.22 WHIP).

Leon was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Friday. With Edward Mujica coming off the DL, Leon was the one to give up his job in the bullpen. He will offer organizational depth from the Triple-A level.

Leon was recalled from Triple-A Nashville. Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte landed on the DL with a shoulder strain, so Leon could stick in the bullpen for a significant stretch. That said, he does not figure to see too many high-leverage opportunities.

Leon was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday. Leon was the odd man out following the return of Drew Pomeranz from the disabled list Wednesday. He accumulated a 5.06 ERA and 1.69 WHIP with seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings with the Athletics, but will return to the minors in search of another opportunity to rejoin the club.
