Garcia re-signed with the Diamondbacks on a minor-league contract last month, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
EDGE Analysis
Garcia spent the entire 2025 campaign in the Diamondbacks organization but was a member of the 40-man roster for just two brief stints in June and appeared in only two games for the big-league club. Arizona will bring back the 32-year-old to provide organizational catching depth at Triple-A Reno, where he slashed .266/.385/.481 with 14 home runs across 296 plate appearances last season.

The Diamondbacks designated Garcia for assignment Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The signing of veteran catcher James McCann was made official Monday, so Garcia's presence is no longer required. Garcia accepted an outright assignment by the Diamondbacks earlier this month and could do so again, assuming he clears waivers.

The Diamondbacks selected Garcia's contract from Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Garcia was up with Arizona briefly earlier this month, seeing action in one game as a defensive replacement. He will back up Jose Herrera at catcher while Gabriel Moreno (hand) is on the injured list.

Garcia cleared waivers Tuesday and was sent outright to Triple-A Reno.
EDGE Analysis
Garcia was pushed off Arizona's 40-man roster Sunday to make room for Kyle Backhus, but the former will officially remain with the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Garcia, 32, has slashed .273/.417/.582 with 10 homers, 20 RBI and 31 runs scored through 139 plate appearances in the minors this season.

Arizona designated Garcia for assignment Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
He'll give up his spot on the 40-man and 26-man rosters to lefty reliever Kyle Backhus, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Reno. The Diamondbacks called Garcia up from Reno on Saturday while top backstop Gabriel Moreno dealt with a hand issue, but Arizona's decision to drop him from the roster a day later suggests Moreno's injury isn't a concern.

The Diamondbacks selected Garcia's contract from Triple-A Reno on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Garcia signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks in November, and in Triple-A this season he is slashing .273/.417/.582 with 10 home runs and 20 RBI in 139 plate appearances. If Gabriel Moreno (hand) is on the shelf for an extended period of time, Garcia would likely serve as Arizona's backup catcher behind Jose Herrera.

Garcia signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training.
EDGE Analysis
Garcia struggled to find his footing at the plate in 2024, slashing just .156/.213/.275 across 282 plate appearances with the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate. Now part of the Diamondbacks organization, the 31-year-old backstop will likely remain an organizational depth piece at Triple-A Reno.

The Phillies outrighted Garcia to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Garcia lost his spot on the 40-man roster but will stick around in the organization as catching depth. The veteran catcher is 0-for-7 at the plate during his brief time with the Phillies this season.

The Phillies designated Garcia for assignment Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Garcia was promoted to the big club Sept. 7 after J.T. Realmuto suffered a knee injury. Garcia appeared in three games for the Phillies and went 0-for-7 with three strikeouts over that span. The move makes room on the 28-man roster for the reinstatement of third baseman Alec Bohm (hand) from the 10-day injured list.

The Phillies selected Garcia's contract from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
J.T. Realmuto suffered a knee injury Friday against the Marlins and Garcia will come up to provide depth behind the plate. If Realmuto is forced to miss time, Garcia would be in line to share catching duties with Garrett Stubbs. That said, Garcia hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2022 and is slashing .161/.215/.282 with Lehigh Valley this season.
