McKirahan was one of two prospects acquired by the Reds on Sunday in exchange for second baseman Brandon Phillips, Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Along with the 27-year-old McKirahan, the Braves acquired 29-year-old pitcher Carlos Portuondo in the trade, but as their ages suggest, neither prospect is considered more than organizational filler. The left-handed McKirahan missed all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery and was outrighted off the Braves' 40-man roster in October. He'll likely settle in as a relief depth at the Double-A or Triple-A level if he's at full health when spring training wraps up.

McKirahan (arm) was outrighted to Double-A Mississippi on Tuesday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
EDGE Analysis
McKirahan spent all of 2016 rehabbing after undergoing Tommy John surgery early in the season, and the Braves decided that it would be best to leave him off the 40-man roster until he can contribute at full capacity near the major league level. He'll start the season at Double-A, but he could progress quickly given his solid showing at Triple-A during the 2015 campaign.

McKirahan (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday, the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
This move is largely procedural, as it clears up a 40-man roster spot now the left-hander is out for the year. McKirahan will likely need Tommy John surgery to repair his torn UCL, meaning that he probably won't see the field again until next season.

McKirahan (elbow) was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, David O'Brien of the AJC reports.
EDGE Analysis
The young lefty was diagnosed with a torn UCL early in spring training and is likely headed towards his second Tommy John surgery. He was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, but he'll likely be transferred over to the 60-day DL in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster sometime down the line. McKirahan won't likely be back on the mound until next spring.

McKirahan (elbow) has a torn UCL and will likely undergo a second Tommy John surgery, Kevin McAlpin of the Braves Radio Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is pretty much a worst case scenario for McKirahan, as a second round of Tommy John surgery is infamously difficult to come back from. He'll have to sit out for roughly a year, then will need to show he still has enough velocity and stuff to stay at the top level. The 26-year-old didn't exactly impress in 2015, receiving a PED suspension and registering a 5.93 ERA in 27.1 innings, so a comeback is a pretty tall order.

McKirahan is scheduled for an MRI on Thursday to help determine the cause of his arm tightness, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
McKirahan had to leave the mound Wednesday after tossing single-digit pitches, so this precautionary move comes as no surprise. Look for more information to be released on the lefty reliever once the team makes the results public.

McKirahan left Wednesday's game with an apparent injury after throwing only four pitches, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear what the injury is or how severe it is, but the fact that he was pulled mid-batter is somewhat concerning. Details of the injury will likely become known after the game concludes.

McKirahan (suspension) will remain with the Braves organization and plans to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett, Kevin McAlpin of Braves Radio Net reports. McKirahan was suspended 80 games back in April for using performance-enhancing drugs. Before the suspension he only made five appearances and there was a possibility that the organization would choose to deal the relief pitcher, although his impending assignment at Gwinnett suggests that he'll remain within the Brave's system as he works his way back into the 40-man roster.

McKirahan has been suspended 80 games for using performance-enhancing drugs, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports. McKirahan, a Rule 5 pick during the offseason, appeared in three games with the Braves prior to his suspension. Assuming MLB handles McKirahan's situation like it did David Rollins', another Rule 5 pick hit with an 80-game suspension, he will be removed from the 40-man roster but remain a part of the Braves until the suspension concludes. At that point, the Braves would either have to add him back to their roster, or offer him back to his original team, the Cubs.

McKirahan was claimed off waivers by the Braves on Wednesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. McKirahan was in contention for a roster spot with the Marlins after being selected in the Rule 5 draft, but apparently didn't show enough to stick around as he was placed on waivers Monday. The 25-year-old has impressed in the lower levels of the minors, and will likely begin the year with Double-A Mississippi.
