Where Are The Elite Starters? Looking for 2019’s deGrom rotoballer.com Mon 3/25/19 6:30 AM

Researching elite starters has taught me a number of things about pitcher development. One of the most valuable has been the reminder that progress is never linear.Blake Snell and Justin Verlander present recent examples of that. Verlander has been in obvious decline on two occasions now, and both times hes bounced back. 2016 Blake Snell displayed impressive talent but limited control. He was then relegated to AAA for portions of 2017, lost strikeouts, and saw his ERA increase, but we all know w[...]

Andrew Heaney Has Been Throwing rotoballer.com Tue 3/19/19 10:23 PM

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Andrew Heaney (elbow) won't be ready for Opening Day, but he's been throwing without issues since Sunday. Like last year, the Angels are hoping the left-hander will return after a short absence. Heaney missed the first two weeks of 2018 with a similar ailment and still led the team with 30 starts. It's disappointing that he's had to start late two straight years, but Heaney still has some upside and is worth a late-round pick in mixed league drafts.

Andrew Heaney Expected To Start Year On Injured List rotoballer.com Sat 3/16/19 7:19 PM

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Andrew Heaney (elbow) is expected to open the season on the injured list after being shut down due to inflammation in his left elbow after his last start on March 8. It's a similar situation to last year when he missed the start of the year with the same injury and returned on April 13. Felix Pena is expected to take Heaney's place in the rotation to begin the year. Pena had a strong spring and posted a 4.00 ERA in his 17 starts in 2018. Heaney's fantasy val[...]

Andrew Heaney Shut Down Again rotoballer.com Wed 3/13/19 11:26 PM

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Andrew Heaney has been shut down from throwing for a second time this spring due to left elbow pain, and there's now a chance he could miss the start of the regular season, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Heaney was scratched on March 3 but made another start last Friday. However, he recorded just two outs and the pain returned after the game. Heaney thinks it's a minor injury but isn't sure if he'll be ready by Opening Day. The 27-year-old got a late start[...]

Andrew Heaney To Start On Friday rotoballer.com Wed 3/6/19 3:31 PM

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Andrew Heaney (elbow) is set to make his next Cactus League start on Friday, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Heaney felt good after Tuesday's bullpen session after he missed a start with elbow inflammation. The 27-year-old left-hander had a decent season in 2018, going 9-10 with a 4.15 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 180 strikeouts in 180 innings over 30 starts for the Halos. You could do a lot worse than Heaney at the back end of your fantasy rotation in mixed leagues.

Andrew Heaney Battling Elbow Inflammation rotoballer.com Sun 3/3/19 6:33 PM

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim starting pitcher Andrew Heaney (elbow) is battling elbow inflammation, and the team pushed him back from his next Cactus League spring start Sunday, using pitcher Daniel Hudson instead. Heaney did say he was able to throw Saturday and Sunday, including a long-toss session from 120 feet on Sunday, so it doesn't sound terribly serious, and he will not even have an MRI. Heaney is scheduled for a bullpen session on Monday, too, and if he makes that session without iss[...]

ADP Champ or Chump - Nathan Eovaldi and Dallas Keuchel rotoballer.com Wed 2/27/19 5:45 AM

Somewhere Dallas Keuchel is looking at Nathan Eovaldis four-year contract for $67.5 million and is wondering how he remains unsigned. He might be having similar thoughts about Patrick Corbins six-year, $140 million contract, but at least Corbin will be 29 to start the season and is coming off a Cy Young-caliber season. By contrast, Keuchel has four times as many innings as Eovaldi in the last three seasons and a [...]
