Cashner hurled a scoreless inning of relief in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Since being moved to the bullpen Aug. 12, Cashner has allowed just one run in 11 innings (0.82 ERA) over seven appearances, perhaps making himself marketable as a reliever when he hits free agency in the offseason. He told Christopher Smith of MassLive.com that transitioning to reliever is something he's considered even before he was traded to Boston and moved to the bullpen. "Before I came to the bullpen here it was already on my radar for next year," Cashner said Tuesday. "So it's not like it was anything crazy. It was something that I've talked about just because the longevity (as a reliever) is longer if you want to continue to pitch." If Cashner continues to pitch well out of Boston's bullpen, teams could be interested in him as a reliever in 2020.

Cashner (11-7) pitched four scoreless innings of relief, allowing only two walks while striking out three in Friday's 7-6 win over the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Cashner was called on in the 12th inning, and the 32-year-old delivered exactly what the Red Sox needed. A Mookie Betts solo shot in the 15th inning would provide the winning run. Friday's effort marks the longest appearance for Cashner since he moved to the bullpen in mid-August. He's allowed just one run on four hits and four walks over 10 innings since the change of roles. For the year, the right-hander owns a 4.54 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 29 appearances (23 starts) between Boston and Baltimore.

Cashner worked around a leadoff single to record the save in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning win over Cleveland. He struck out two in one inning.
EDGE Analysis
Brandon Workman was unable to preserve the win in the ninth inning, so the Red Sox needed Cashner for the 10th. Jackie Bradley's home run in the top half of the inning created the save opportunity for Cashner, who delivered the first save of his career. His arm was fresh after throwing just 1.2 innings in an abbreviated start Sunday.

Cashner will pitch out of the bullpen moving forward, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox don't need a fifth starter for the rest of August thanks to a flurry of well-placed off days, so the team will proceed with a four-man rotation for the time being while Cashner shifts to a relief role. The veteran right-hander has struggled to a brutal 8.31 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 21:17 K:BB in 30.1 innings (six starts) since being acquired by the Red Sox at the beginning of the second half, but the hope is that he'll be more effective in shorter stints.

Cashner's spot in the rotation is safe while David Price (wrist) is on the injured list, but he may be removed as the Red Sox consider the rotation moving forward, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cashner had yet another shaky start Sunday, walking five and getting the hook after 1.2 innings. He has an 8.01 ERA in six starts for Boston. When asked about Cashner's spot in the rotation, manager Alex Cora would only say the Red Sox will meet Monday to determine how the rotation will line up over the next 19 days, a stretch that includes six off days. Cora is considering skipping starters and using piggyback starters. Once Price is ready to return, the Red Sox might be comfortable removing Cashner from the rotation.

Cashner surrendered three runs on three hits and five walks while striking out one over 1.2 innings Sunday against the Angels. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Cashner gave up one run in the first inning and two more in the second before being yanked from his start. It became apparent early on that he couldn't find his command, issuing five free passes while firing just 24 of 51 pitches for strikes. The 32-year-old right-hander may be in danger of losing his rotation spot at this point, as he's now allowed 15 earned runs over his last three outings (12.2).

Cashner (10-7) allowed six earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four across 5.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Cashner served up three home runs -- two to Jorge Soler -- that accounted for five of his six earned runs. Since being dealt to the Red Sox, Cashner has posted a 7.66 ERA and a 20:12 K:BB across 28.2 frames. He'll look to get on track in his next start, currently scheduled for Sunday against the Angels.

Cashner (10-6) took the loss Thursday, surrendering seven runs on seven hits and five walks to the Rays while striking out one over 5.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Cashner lost for the third time in four starts as a member of the Red Sox. He's allowed 19 earned runs on 31 hits and 10 walks over 23.1 innings since donning a Boston uniform. He'll look to execute better in his next start Tuesday at home against the Royals.

Cashner (10-5) allowed three runs on 10 hits with one walk and six strikeouts across 6.2 innings to earn a victory against the Yankees on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
While he didn't pitch all that much better than his first two starts with Boston, this victory was his first with the Red Sox since joining the club right after the All-Star break. Cashner owns a 4.18 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 81 strikeouts in 114 innings with the Orioles and Red Sox this season. He will pitch again at home against the Rays on Thursday.

Cashner (9-5) allowed four runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts across six innings while taking a loss against the Orioles on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander gave up a couple long balls, but he didn't have the run support to win Sunday anyway. In two starts with the Red Sox, Cashner has tossed up four homers and lost both games. Overall, he is 9-5 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 75 strikeouts in 107.1 innings with the Orioles and Red Sox this season. He will look to capture his first win with Boston against the vaunted Yankees offense at home Friday.
