According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets inquired on Oakland closer Andrew Bailey but are unlikely to execute a trade. The A's are attempting to "sell high" on Bailey, according to Sherman, and the rebuilding Mets don't want to meet their asking price. The 27-year-old righty is also drawing trade interest from the Rangers, Reds and Mariners. He registered a 3.24 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 24 saves in 2011.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rangers are attempting to trade for A's closer Andrew Bailey. The Rangers also pursued Bailey around the July non-waiver trade deadline but were unable to work out a deal. The 27-year-old right-hander posted a 3.24 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 24 saves in 41 1/3 innings this past year at the back end of the Oakland 'pen. He'd probably like to continue serving as a closer, but Texas has already handed that job to Joe Nathan. Bailey is eligible for arbitration this winter for the first time in his career.

ESPN's Buster Olney writes that the odds of Andrew Bailey being traded this offseason "appear to be about 100 percent." We heard earlier in the day Monday that the Reds were talking to the Athletics about Bailey, but Olney hears that the Mariners have also checked on his availability. The Athletics don't look like they will contend for a playoff spot in the near future, so shopping their closer makes plenty of sense. The 27-year-old right-hander is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and is under team control though 2014.

According to CBS Sports' Danny Knobler, the A's are "very willing" to trade closer Andrew Bailey. The Reds have already expressed legitimate interest and other teams are likely to join the fray. Bailey doesn't turn 28 years old until next May and he's under team control for at least the next three seasons. He posted a 3.24 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 41 1/3 innings this past year for the money-starved A's, saving a total of 24 games. Oakland will want young, cost-controlled hitters in return.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Reds and A's are discussing a potential Andrew Bailey trade. Bailey, 27, registered a 3.24 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 41 2/3 innings this year, tallying 24 saves along the way. The right-hander is injury-prone, but he can be dominant when healthy and would fit snugly at the back end of the Cincinnati bullpen. A trade for Bailey would likely put an end to the Reds' negotiations with Francisco Cordero.

Andrew Bailey was ruled out for Monday's game as a precautionary measure after he was hit in the face by a Kurt Suzuki line drive during batting practice. Bailey didn't sustain a concussion, but he's experiencing headaches. Team doctors believe he'll be fine. If Oakland has a save opportunity Monday, it would go to either Brian Fuentes or Grant Balfour.
