Andres Torres is unavailable Thursday due to a back injury. The exact nature of the injury isn't yet known, but Mike Kerwick of the Bergen Record writes that Mets manager Terry Collins "sounds concerned." Kirk Nieuwenhuis (hand) is back in the starting lineup Thursday and should see most of the playing time in center field while he's sidelined.

Andres Torres went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Rays. It was just his third start in the last week, as Jason Bay's return has crowded the Mets' outfield. Torres is batting just .221 on the year despite the nice night. He should continue to receive a few starts per week.

Andres Torres' wife gave birth at 6:30 a.m. ET on Monday, which is why he's not in the lineup Monday afternoon. Torres has struggled mightily at the plate this season, but Monday's absence is not related to under-performance. Scott Hairston is starting in center field in his place.

Andres Torres continued his hot-hitting since returning from his DL stint, going 3-for-4 with an RBI against the Diamondbacks on Friday. Torres raised his average to .333 (6-for-18) with the strong performance, and is making his case to be moved up to the top of the Mets lineup. He may not duplicate his strong 2010 season with the Giants, but he's still well worth owning in deeper mixed leagues for his speed potential.
