Andres Torres had a terrific all-around day in Friday's 5-2 win over the Rangers in Cactus League action, going 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. Torres was also active on the bases, netting his first steal of the spring season. He missed a few weeks of action with an oblique injury, but appears to be back on track and should be ready to go for Opening Day. He's expected to serve as the Giants fourth outfielder, unless he can beat out Gregor Blanco for the starting job in left field.

Andres Torres (oblique) return to the lineup Monday. A strained oblique had kept Torres on the shelf for a couple weeks. As long as he can avoid a setback, he has plenty of time to get in enough at-bats in preparation for Opening Day.

Giants signed OF Andres Torres to a one-year, $2 million contract. Torres has passed his physical, making the deal official. The 34-year-old spent 2009-11 with the Giants, having a career year in '09 when he belted 16 homers while stealing 26 bases. He's struggled the last two seasons, though, and his best chance at playing time this time around will be to beat out Gregor Blanco for the left field job. Ultimately, he'll likely serve as a backup at all three outfield spots.

CSN Bay Area's Andrew Baggarly reports that the Giants have reached a one-year deal with Andres Torres. Torres was non-tendered by the Mets late last month after batting just .230/.327/.337 across 434 plate appearances in 2012. The 34-year-old will battle Gregor Blanco for playing time in left field out in San Francisco and can serve as a backup at the other two outfield spots.
