The Cardinals and Pallante avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4 million contract Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Although he's thrown at least five innings in six consecutive outings, the right-hander has permitted at least four runs in four of them. Pallante didn't factor into the decision against the Giants on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three over six innings.

Pallante turned in his first quality start since July 28, keeping San Francisco in check outside of a pair of runs in the fourth inning. The right-hander has struggled with consistency in the second half, including a 9.82 ERA and 2.14 WHIP over five starts in August, but he showed improved command and efficiency Saturday by completing six innings for just the second time in his last eight outings. Pallante will take a 5.28 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 104:53 K:BB over 150 innings into Milwaukee for his next scheduled start.

Pallante (6-13) took the loss Sunday against the Reds, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out six.

EDGE Analysis

It's the sixth straight defeat for Pallante, who's struggled to a 1-9 record with a 7.79 ERA in his last 10 starts. Overall, the right-hander sports a 5.38 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP and 101:52 K:BB across 27 starts (144 innings) this year. Pallante will look to turn things around in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for next week at home against the Giants.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Pallante will make his next scheduled start Sunday in Cincinnati, John Denton of MLB.comreports.

EDGE Analysis

Pallante has posted an 8.26 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB over 44.2 innings covering his last nine starts, but the Cardinals believe his underlying metrics point to better success moving forward and want the hurler work through his issues in the big-league rotation. The right-hander should not be used in fantasy leagues until he shows some improvement, particularly with a start at Great American Ball Park looming this weekend.

Pallante (6-12) took the loss Tuesday against the Pirates, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out three in five innings.

The run of bad starts continued Tuesday for Pallante, who now has an 11.65 ERA and 2.18 WHIP over his last four outings. Pallante allowed three runs and four hits before even recording an out against the Pirates. He wound up surrendering seven runs over the first two frames before Henry Davis took him yard for a solo shot in the third. Pallante showed promise in 2024, posting a 3.78 ERA over 121.1 innings, but he's been a completely different pitcher in 2025. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol indicated after Pallante's poor start Tuesday that a discussion would need to be had about the pitcher's standing in the rotation, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Should he get another turn through the rotation, Pallante would line up to face the Reds on the road this weekend.

Pallante (6-11) took the loss against the Marlins on Wednesday, surrendering five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four over 5.1 innings.

Pallante was tagged for at least one run in four of the six frames he worked and was lifted immediately after serving up a homer to Maximo Acosta in the sixth. It marked the sixth time in his last eight outings that the right-hander has allowed at least four earned runs, a stretch in which he's posted a 7.71 ERA and a 29:16 K:BB across 39.2 innings. Amid the recent struggles, Pallante will look to regain some stability in his next scheduled turn against the Pirates.

The eight strikeouts were a season high for Pallante, but it was not an encouraging showing overall. The right-hander has now yielded at least four runs on five occasions over his last seven outings, posting an unsightly 7.60 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 25:13 K:BB over his last 34.1 innings. Pallante has a lone quality start during that stretch, so he doesn't project as a recommended streamer next week in Miami.
