Simon gave up three runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out seven over seven innings, in a loss to the Pirates on Saturday. Simon is starting to right the ship a bit, with back-to-back quality starts, but he's still just 1-6 since the All-Star break. The 33-year-old's decline has come as little surprise, as his .232 BABIP and 4.33 FIP in the first half were obvious indicator that his 2.70 ERA and .217 BAA were unsustainable.

Simon finally turned in a good post-All-Star break start Sunday, holding the Braves to one run on five hits and a walk, striking out six to get the win. Everything finally came together for Simon on Sunday after a miserable stretch following the break. He was far more pitch-efficient as well, needing 99 pitches to get through his seven innings. He's now thrown 160.1 innings this season, by far more than he's ever thrown in a major league season, and just six innings short of his professional high (in 2004 no less). It'll be interesting to see how the Reds address his workload in September.

Simon pitched 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out two batters before picking up a no-decision in Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. While he wasn't spectacular Tuesday, Simon's outing was nonetheless solid considering the second half he has endured. Simon has only one quality start since the All-Star Break. His ERA now sits at 3.35 on the year with his WHIP at 1.20, while posting a 94:42 K:BB ratio in 153.1 innings pitched. Simon's next start is set for Sunday at home against the Braves.

Simon gave up seven runs (five earned) over five innings in Thursday's loss to the Rockies, giving up 10 hits and a walk while striking out two. It's not at all shocking that Simon, who has struggled since the break (0-5 record), would struggle in Coors Field. He has a 5.46 ERA since the All-Star break.

Simon once again was limited to just five innings Saturday against the Marlins, giving up two runs on four hits and five walks, striking out five. Simon needed 91 pitches just to get through five innings, continuing his post-All-Star break trend.

Simon was roughed up Monday, taking the loss after allowing five runs in five innings of work. Simon has hit a couple bumps in the road since making the All-Star game last month, failing to throw more than five innings in three of his last four starts. The veteran will try to break a four-game losing streak this weekend against the Marlins.

Alfredo Simon yielded three runs over 4 1/3 innings in Friday's loss to the Nationals. It was his shortest outing since May 27. Simon allowed nine hits and two walks, so he was at 89 pitches before being pulled with one out in the fifth. Things could have been worse, but J.J. Hoover bailed him out of a jam. Simon has now lost back-to-back starts for the first time this season. He'll attempt to get back on the winning side next week against the Diamondbacks.

Alfredo Simon yielded four runs (two earned) over five innings in a loss to the Yankees on Saturday. Simon gave up five hits (including a solo homer to Carlos Beltran) and one walk while notching four strikeouts. This was his first loss since way back on May 27. The All-Star right-hander has been one of the biggest surprises in the game this season with a 2.74 ERA over 19 starts. We wouldn't be surprised to see him wear down during the second half, but he's been a life-saver for the Reds until this point.

Alfredo Simon has been added to the National League All-Star team. It's not clear whose spot he's taking, but there are four NL starters Sunday that need to be replaced. We'd rather see someone like Stephen Strasburg make it, but Simon has had a great first half with a 2.70 ERA and 1.05 WHIP.

Alfredo Simon picked up his league-leading 12th win, allowing one run over 6 2/3 innings as the Reds triumphed over the Cubs by a 4-1 margin on Wednesday. Simon continues to pitch lights out baseball, as he hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start since May 27. The injured Masahiro Tanaka and Simon are the only pitchers in baseball with 12 wins presently. Against the Cubs, the right-hander allowed four hits -- including a solo home run to Anthony Rizzo -- while walking two and striking out eight. Simon will take a 2.70 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP, and a 75/28 K/BB ratio into a road start against the Yankees following the All-Star break.
